THE TOUGHEST CALL: RISKING YOUR OWN LIFE TO SAVE ANOTHER,
ON "20/20," FRIDAY, MAY 27 ON ABC
Plus: Reality Rule$: When TV Gets Real;
And: Camel Trek
Private Channing Moss was on patrol in Iraq with members of his platoon from the 10th Mountain Division from Ft. Drum, NY when he was struck by an RPG that lodged in his lower abdomen -- but didn't explode. The soldiers' rulebook dictates, in this rare incident, that the wounded soldier should be moved aside and made as comfortable as possible, but that the lives of others should not be risked to save his life. A series of tough calls - all against the rules - then ensued. Elizabeth Vargas has the heroic story of "Saving Private Moss" (OAD 9/21/07), on "20/20," FRIDAY, MAY 27 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Plus: From Housewives to Snooki to "American Idol," reality shows now dominate the television landscape. With a powerful recipe of real people, real conflict and real transformation, why watch someone pretend to have a catfight or to struggle with their weight or even to become a star when you can watch the real thing? Chris Connelly previews "Reality Rule$: When TV Gets Real,"
a special edition of "20/20" that airs Tuesday, May 31 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET).
And: As part of our year long Global Health series "Be the Change: Save a Life," Jay Schadler follows a most unusual effort to bring medical help to some of the most remote people on the planet:
A team of 12 camels plus a group of nurses, counselors and camel handlers trek to Samburu, Kenya to treat hundreds of thousands of people who normally rely on the traditional healers and witch doctors they've relied on for eons. But the camel clinic has lost its funding, and unless new money is found, the trip Schadler is on will be the last. Even more frustrating, a breakthrough technical advance is close at hand -- a solar powered, camel-carried refrigerator that would allow life saving vaccines to come into the region for the first time.
"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and Chris Cuomo. David Sloan is executive producer.
