ADDITIONAL NOTES:
renewed through the 2014-15 season (the show's sixth) on 4/19/13
DESCRIPTION:
(from FOX's press release, May 2013) Entering its fifth season, GLEE is a musical comedy about a group of ambitious and talented students who dream of stardom but struggle with life in the real world. Since its debut, GLEE has built a loyal fanbase of "Gleeks"; made tracksuits, musicals and outcasts cool again; attracted A-list guest stars from Kate Hudson to Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow; covered music from Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga and Madonna; and received prestigious awards and nominations from the Emmy Awards to the Writers Guild. Its cast has traveled to the White House, sold out an internationa lconcert tour and was featured in a 3D movie. For the past four seasons, the glee club's fearless leader has been WILL SCHUESTER (Matthew Morrison), a talented young teacher whose main objective is to take the club to Nationals. This past season, his co-captain has been recent graduate FINN HUDSON (Cory Monteith). His aspiring stars and McKinley's finest include the squeaky clean MARLEY(Melissa Benoist), debonair BLAINE (Darren Criss), visionary ARTIE (Kevin McHale), contentious KITTY (Becca Tobin), charming JAKE (Jacob Artist),dimwitted BRITTANY (Heather Morris) and quirky SAM (Chord Overstreet), among other talented students. These eager kids are determined to win, even when they find themselves face-to-face with arch-nemesis SUE SYLVESTER (EmmyAward-winning actress Jane Lynch), the conniving cheerleading coach. Last year's graduates and aspiring singers, RACHEL (Lea Michelle) and KURT (Chris Colfer), packed their bags for New York and enrolled at a prestigious performing arts school, NYADA, where they made new friends and learned the cruel realities of college. These naïve freshmen moved into a Brooklyn loft, signed up for internships, auditioned for Broadway shows and gained a roommate when SANTANA (Naya Rivera) decided to move to the Big Apple. Next season, the show will pick up where it left off and continue to follow the journey of the NYADA students and the kids of New Directions. The school year will continue at McKinley High, where the glee club's win at Regionals puts them on the path to possible back-to-back winsat Nationals. Meanwhile, in New York, we find out if Rachel lands the lead role in her first Broadway production and Blaine plans his proposal to Kurt. Earlier this year, the series reached its milestone 500th performance with arendition of the anthem, "Shout." GLEE music continues to shatter records with more than 53 million GLEE tracks digitally downloaded and more than 13 million albums sold worldwide. GLEE albums have garnered two platinum albums (sales inexcess of 1 million units) and five gold albums (sales in excess of 500,000 units). Also, the GLEE cast holds the record for most singles to ever enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart (203 tracks to date), surpassing records previously held by Elvis Presley, the Beatles and James Brown. GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk, Brennan and Dante Di Loreto serve as executive producers.
