04/01/2014 (09:31PM - 10:00PM) (Tuesday) : MEL MAKES A SURPRISING DISCOVERY AND HENRY GOES ON A QUEST IN ADVANCE OF HIS TWELFTH BIRTHDAY-Mel (J.K. Simmons) flips out when he finds marijuana in his daughter Katie's (Ava Deluca-Verley) bag - only to discover his ex-wife Joyce (Jenna Elfman) put it there. Apparently, Joyce is trying things she never could when married to Mel.[emitted sentence] Meanwhile, as his twelfth birthday approaches, Henry (Eli Baker) is convinced he's going blind since that's the age his dad was when he lost his sight. It's irrational, but just in case, Henry and his best friend Runyen (Lance Lim), embark on a quest to see the one thing a boy must see before he goes blind. Voice over by Jason Bateman. Matthew Glave, Bianca DeGroat, Olivia Rose Keegan and Rachel Pace guest star.

DESCRIPTION: (from NBC's press release, July 2013) Jenna Elfman has been cast in the upcoming NBC comedy "Growing Up Fisher." Elfman will play the role of Joyce Fisher, the wife of Mel Fisher (J.K. Simmons) - the proud family patriarch who does not let his blindness affect him as a father, husband and breadwinner. Elfman recently appeared on NBC's "1600 Penn" and is best known for her role on "Dharma and Greg," for which she garnered a Golden Globe Award, three Emmy Award nominations. "Growing Up Fisher" (formerly known as "The Family Guide") is from Universal Television and Aggregate Films. It is executive produced by DJ Nash, Jim Garavente and Jason Bateman, who also serves as narrator. The series will premiere in midseason for NBC.
