04/15/2014 (09:31PM - 10:00PM) (Tuesday) : IN TRYING TO MAKE A NEW FRIEND, MEL LEARNS NOT TO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER AND JOYCE INTERVENES WHEN RUNYEN IS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO SPEND TIME WITH HENRY - When Sloan (guest star Matt Glave) cancels on Mel (J.K. Simmons), Mel struggles to find a new plus-one for an important charity event, and he's determined to show his peers that his post-divorce life is going smoothly. Katie (Ava Deluca-Verley) becomes invested in helping her dad find a plus-one, as her secret party at her dad's apartment is in jeopardy if Mel doesn't attend the event. Meanwhile, Runyen's (Lance Lim) mom (guest star Lela Lee) thinks Henry (Eli Baker) is a bad influence on her son, so Joyce (Jenna Elfman) confronts her in order to defend the Fisher family honor. Voice-over by Jason Bateman. Joey Slotnick, Nathan Kress and Brian Howe also guest star.

DESCRIPTION: (from NBC's press release, July 2013) Jenna Elfman has been cast in the upcoming NBC comedy "Growing Up Fisher." Elfman will play the role of Joyce Fisher, the wife of Mel Fisher (J.K. Simmons) - the proud family patriarch who does not let his blindness affect him as a father, husband and breadwinner. Elfman recently appeared on NBC's "1600 Penn" and is best known for her role on "Dharma and Greg," for which she garnered a Golden Globe Award, three Emmy Award nominations. "Growing Up Fisher" (formerly known as "The Family Guide") is from Universal Television and Aggregate Films. It is executive produced by DJ Nash, Jim Garavente and Jason Bateman, who also serves as narrator. The series will premiere in midseason for NBC.
