A FLORIDA MOTHER OF TWO CLAIMS SHE SAW THE MURDER OF A FRIEND IN HER DREAM - IS SHE A CLAIRVOYANT OR A KILLER?

"48 HOURS: A VISION OF MURDER"

SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2015

Sheila Trott, a mother of two living in central Florida, says she was awakened one night in 2010 by a horrific dream that she saw the face of a friend in total darkness. She took it as a sign that the friend was in danger - or worse. The dream was a reality. Friend Kelly Brennan was later found bludgeoned to death.

Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS investigate the death of Kelly Brennan and Trott's unusual dream-turned-nightmare in "A Vision of Murder" to be broadcast Saturday, May 2 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

To some, Trott is a clairvoyant who was able to provide enough information to lead police to Brennan's body. To others, however, she's a killer who was caught up in a love triangle and wanted a female rival dead.

It's a complicated story that exposes secrets, lies, an affair, sex and jealousy.

"I don't know if it was a dream or a memory, but I woke up and it just startled me," Trott tells Van Sant of the dream at the center of the case. "Everything was black - she was arguing with somebody and I saw a sign for Marks Landing."

Brennan was later found dead in the brush near Marks Landing, in Indialantic, on Florida's Space Coast, exactly where Trott dreamt it would be. Trott was then arrested.

"I don't think she's clairvoyant," says prosecutor Samantha Barrett. "I think she's a killer."

The investigation would raise questions about an alleged love triangle connection between Trott, Brennan and Trott's estranged husband, Dan Trott. Brennan had her own marital woes, and had begun dating Dan Trott, Sheila Trott tells 48 HOURS, adding that she encouraged that relationship as a way to free herself from a bad marriage. The women were friends, meeting years earlier when they both worked together.

"In God's honest truth, if I was going to kill anybody, it would have been him," Sheila Trott tells Van Sant.

Police, however, weren't buying her story of a nightmare vision.

"'Course, that's our suspect saying she's clairvoyant," says lead investigator Major Tod Goodyear, Supervisor for Criminal Investigations and Major Crimes for Brevard County Sheriff's Office. "For us, that's somebody trying to live with what they've done."

Is Sheila Trott a killer, or did she really dream key details about a friend's murder? And what would a jury think?

Van Sant and 48 HOURS tell the story of the case against Sheila Trott through interviews with her, her ex-attorney, investigators, prosecutors and others. 48 HOURS: "A Vision of Murder" is produced by Taigi Smith, Clare Friedland, Michelle Feuer and Alicia Tejada.
