ALL NEW EPISODES OF UNIVISION NETWORK'S BOUNDARY-BREAKING ORIGINAL SERIES 'EL CHAPO' AIR BACK-TO-BACK ON SUNDAY, APRIL 30 BEGINNING AT 8PM ET/PT

Univision's new ripped-from-the-headlines drama "El Chapo" continues with all new episodes airing back-to-back on Sunday, April 30 at 8PM and 9PM ET/PT. The boundary-breaking series, which debuted this past weekend, explores the life story of one of the world's most notorious criminals over a span of three decades - from 1985, when he was a low level member of the Guadalajara Cartel, his rise to power and his ultimate downfall.

On the third episode (8PM), which takes place in 1990 in Mexico, the war between "El Chapo" and the Avendaos heats up, upsetting the government's plans to control drug trafficking. The U.S. government intervenes and demands that Mexican officials free Amado, a protégé of Miguel ngel's, and institute him as top boss. But the order that Amado attempts to impose fails: the Avendaos viciously kill the family of "El Gero," an "El Chapo" associate, and he launches his greatest attack to date: the Christine nightclub, where innocents are killed in the crossfire. Under pressure from both governments, Amado decides to get rid of "El Chapo" Guzmn.

On the fourth episode (9PM), which takes place in 1993 in Mexico, Amado finds the perfect chance to do away with "El Chapo" and, at the same time, deliver on a new government request: offering cover to kill the Cardinal of Guadalajara. The plan is to place both of them in the same place - the Guadalajara airport - inform the Avendaos of the whereabouts of their main enemy and orchestrate an attack that will allow them to kill "El Chapo" and the government to say that the Cardinal died in the crossfire. But everything goes wrong: "El Chapo" escapes, and only the Cardinal is killed. Under pressure from the public, the government and Amado decide to blame "El Chapo" for the Cardinal's murder and to order he be captured immediately, making him a public figure overnight and turning him into a myth.

NOTE: Premiere of 'El Chapo' Made Univision #2 Network Among Younger Viewers, Beating ABC, CBS and FOX

"El Chapo," currently in production, will air in three separate cycles and marks the first co-production between Story House Entertainment and Netflix. The series currently airs in Spanish with English-language Closed Captioning available. Versions with English-subtitles will be available when the series premieres globally on Netflix (date to be announced).

The series stars Marco de la O (Tanto Amor) as Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmn; Humberto Busto (Amores Perros) as Attorney Conrado Sol, aka "Don Sol" (an important political party figure); Juan Carlos Olivas (180) as El Gero (Joaqun's main partner); Alejandro Aguilar ("Rosario Tijeras") as Too (Joaqun's main assassin); Tete Espinoza ("Wenses y Lala") as Cho (Joaqun's lover); Rodrigo Abed (Reevolucin) as Amado (Mexican capo); Luis Rbago (Principio y Fin) as General Blanco (National Security Advisor); Cristina Michaus (El Tigre de Santa Julia) as Doa Esperanza (Joaqun's mother); Valentina Acosta ("Seora Acero") as Alejandra (Joaqun's first wife); and Juliette Pardau ("De Todas Maneras Rosa") as Graciela (Joaqun's second wife). 'El Chapo' is created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and Carlos Contreras and produced by Daniel Posada. The first season is directed by Jose Manuel Cravioto and Ernesto Contreras.

Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmn, who has been accused by law enforcement of running the "largest drug trafficking organization in the world," has long evaded authorities. After being captured by Mexican authorities in February 2014, Guzman escaped from a maximum security Mexican prison in July 2015 by crawling through an opening in the shower of his cell block that led to a mile-long tunnel to freedom. He was recaptured nearly six months later and extradited to the U.S. earlier this year. His next scheduled court appearance is on May 5, 2017.
