"20/20" SEARCHES FOR ANSWERS IN THE MURDER OF LEGENDARY DESIGNER GIANNI VERSACE BY A SERIAL KILLER 20 YEARS AGO
"Dying to be Famous: The Versace Murders" Airs on "20/20" Friday, July 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET) on ABC
The murder of internationally-renowned fashion designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his oceanfront mansion in South Beach Miami dominated global headlines during the summer of 1997. The brazen murder crippled the glamorous South Beach community and triggered fear in the hearts of Americans. Versace's death was the last in a string of murders perpetrated by 27-year-old Andrew Cunanan. Dozens of agents pursued him on a cross-country manhunt which sent him to the top of the FBI's Most Wanted list.
20 years later, baffling questions still remain. What led Cunanan to this disturbing, homicidal path? What triggered the rage that claimed five lives? And did Versace know his killer? Friday night, "20/20" investigates the twisting path of the making of a serial killer. The search for answers features interviews with Cunanan's former roommate, Versace's friends, reporters who tracked the story and law enforcement agents who investigated the case. The hour also highlights the exclusive sit-down interview with Cunanan's siblings from the ABC News archive. "Dying to Be Famous: The Versace Murders" airs on "20/20" FRIDAY, JULY 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.
"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
