THE NEXT "CBSN: ON ASSIGNMENT" GOES INSIDE THE FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL ON CHICAGO'S STREETS, A MAN'S BATTLE TO STOP VLADIMIR PUTIN AND A TELEVANGELIST'S PUSH TO BUILD A BRIDGE TO MUSLIM NATIONS
Monday, August 7 (10:00 PM, ET/PT)
Inside the battle to stop gang violence on the streets of Chicago, behind the scenes at Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny's campaign against Vladimir Putin, a profile of a televangelist's mission to reach out to Christians in Muslim nations, and more on the next CBSN: ON ASSIGNMENT to be broadcast Monday, August 7 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and on CBSN, the network's 24/7 streaming news service.
CBSN: ON ASSIGNMENT is a new primetime summer series featuring experiential reports driven by fresh voices and perspectives from around the world. Each hour-long edition of the series will feature multiple stories and highlight CBSN's distinctive storytelling style, as reported by more than a dozen CBS News correspondents.
On the next broadcast, Adriana Diaz looks at a generation fighting for survival in Chicago. Diaz gained unique access inside some of crews in the hardest hit neighborhoods and also travels with a former gang leader who battles to disrupt the cycle of violence. She's there when the police radio crackles with word of a shooting and police rush to the scene to diffuse retaliatory strikes. Diaz is also there after the funeral of a gunshot victim; when crew members open up about the ease and cost of getting guns; and when the violence disrupters descend on a crime scene.
From Russia, Ryan Chilcote goes behind the scenes with opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the man taking a stand against what he says is rampant Russian corruption in his long-shot bid to run against Vladimir Putin for president. In a country where opposition figures have ended up in exile, in prison, or dead, Chilcote explores Navalny's controversial campaign and his movement to unseat the man who has led Russia with an iron fist for nearly two decades.
Also, James Brown follows 85-year-old Marilyn Hickey to Pakistan as part of her ambitious mission to use faith to build a bridge to the Muslim world. "Muslims love me," the Christian televangelist says as she risks death to travel across the Middle East and South Asia to speak at stadium rallies filled with hundreds of thousands of fans about the joys of knowing Jesus.
