"20/20" reports details on a crime that rocked the idyllic seaside town of Truro, Cape Cod - the 2002 murder of Christa Worthington, found stabbed to death with her 2-year-old daughter Ava unharmed by her side. The report takes a look at all the evidence in the case, investigating whether the right man is behind bars. "20/20: A Killing on the Cape," airs Saturday, June 23 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 10/25/17)
Fifteen years after the murder, Christopher McCowen - who was convicted for her murder - speaks to "20/20" from jail while he is fighting for freedom, claiming he is innocent. After a three-year investigation, police arrested McCowen, the local trash collector. He was eventually sentenced to life in prison without parole, but his trial raised questions about the evidence, investigative methods and whether racial prejudice played a role. After the 46-year-old fashion writer was found brutally murdered in her home, the entire town fell under suspicion. Police chased a long list of potential suspects, including Worthington's ex-boyfriends. Those leads went nowhere and in a controversial move, police attempted to collect DNA samples from every man in town. Three years after the murder, there was finally a surprise match, McCowen, who was arrested, charged and found guilty of Christa's rape and murder.
"20/20" is anchored by David Muir and Amy Robach. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
