'WHAT WOULD YOU DO?' EPISODE FEATURES SCENARIO INSPIRED BY TRUE STORY OF CASHIER WHO PREVENTED SHOPPERS FROM HELPING CUSTOMER PAY GROCERY BILL

'What Would You Do?' Airs Friday, Aug. 17 (9:00 - 10:01 p.m. EDT), on ABC

A new episode of "What Would You Do?," airing Friday, Aug. 17 (9:00 - 10:01 p.m. EDT), features a scenario inspired by a news story in which an Oregonian woman using WIC coupons at a supermarket did not have enough money to pay for her groceries. When a fellow shopper offered to chip in the extra $12, the cashier wouldn't allow it.

"What Would You Do?" with anchor John Quiñones reveals how people behave when they think no one is watching by using hidden cameras to record people's real reactions to thought-provoking scenarios created by actors.

Friday, Aug. 17 scenarios include the following:

· A woman using food stamps at a grocery store is short a few dollars. When others in line offer to help, the cashier tries to prevent them, claiming the customer is already receiving enough help through food stamps. What will the shoppers do?

· A young boy whose parents practice "free range" parenting, a technique which encourages children to function independently with little parental supervision, asks passersby what time it is, explaining he has been left to play on his own for several hours and is meeting his mom later. How will they respond?

· At a restaurant, a man is telling his very traditional Chinese parents that he is gay. His parents make it clear they will not accept their son's sexual orientation, citing their culture and beliefs. What will fellow diners say?

· Fraternity brothers are publicly hazing and humiliating new recruits. How will passersby react? What happens when sorority recruits are being hazed? (OAD: 9/15/17)

· A beautiful young woman asks different strangers to pretend to be her boyfriend for ten minutes so she can appease her meddling mother. How will the strangers respond? (OAD: 7/10/15)
