VICE SPECIAL REPORT: THE FUTURE OF WORK Debuts April 19 on HBO

Show Looks at How Automation and AI Are Changing Work and Society - Whether We're Ready or Not

The next Industrial Revolution is upon us, and the way we work in 2019 is already unrecognizable to previous generations. Whole industries are in the process of being automated, with workers being replaced by AI and algorithms. America is only now grappling with the huge questions raised by this shift.

Produced in partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations, VICE SPECIAL REPORT: THE FUTURE OF WORK debuts FRIDAY, APRIL 19 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. The special examines how radical developments in automation and artificial intelligence are set to change the world of work as we know it.

The show will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners' streaming platforms.

Hosted by VICE News correspondent Krishna Andavolu, with contributions from correspondents Gianna Toboni and Michael Moynihan, the special looks at how entire industries are being disrupted and how these changes are creating ripple effects throughout the global economy.

VICE's correspondents sit down with a wide variety of experts, including Nobel Laureate economists, CEOs and workers whose jobs will radically change in the years to come. They document how industries that long seemed immune from automation, such as fast food, contract law and long-haul trucking, are rapidly being automated, with workers replaced by AI and algorithms.

THE FUTURE OF WORK also digs into how policymakers are racing to address this shift and explores its potential to destabilize entire industries and societies. Talking with policymakers and politicians, including Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin and 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang, the special examines the nascent solutions to tomorrow's problems - whether it's adopting a universal basic income or focusing on job retraining.
