The 44th President Talks to Scott Pelley in his First Interview about his Memoir A Promised Land
Excerpt Broadcast on the "CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell"
Barack Obama tells Scott Pelley members of the president's party who "go along with" his unfounded claims of election fraud put democracy on a dangerous path. The former president appears in his first interview about his new book A Promised Land in a report to be broadcast on the next edition of 60 MINUTES Sunday, Nov. 15 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
An excerpt of that interview was broadcast on the CBS EVENING NEWS with NORAH O'DONNELL tonight; the text of the excerpt is below. Please credit 60 MINUTES.
SCOTT PELLEY: What are these false claims of widespread election fraud doing to our country right now?
BARACK OBAMA: They appear to be motivated - in part because - the president doesn't like to lose and - never admits loss. I'm more troubled by the fact that other Republican officials who clearly know better are going along with this, are humoring him in this fashion. It is one more step in delegitimizing not just the incoming Biden administration, but democracy generally. And that's a dangerous path.
Mr. Obama sat down yesterday with Pelley for 60 MINUTES and with Gayle King for an interview to air on CBS SUNDAY MORNING on Nov. 15. https://bit.ly/35kuQwc
