Leo Schofield spent over three decades serving a prison sentence for the brutal murder of his young wife, Michelle Schofield. "20/20" documents the significant developments in the case since his conviction, including the identification of fingerprints found inside Michelle's car, belonging to a convicted killer who lived in the area and would later confess to the crime. Now, in April of 2024, following nationwide attention to his case, Leo was released from prison on parole. For two years, "20/20" has reported on Leo's legal journey and gives an inside look at the ongoing battle to clear his name and his new life following his release from prison.
The two-hour program features reporting from ABC News correspondent John QuiƱones and an exclusive video of Leo's homecoming with his family. The episode also includes interviews with Scott Cupp, a judge who stepped down from the bench so he could represent Leo in his fight for exoneration; Gilbert King, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author who documented Leo's case in a podcast; and Leo's family, including his current wife, Crissie Carter Schofield, who led the charge to get him out of prison, and his daughter Ashley Schofield.
