ABC News Correspondent Bob Woodruff Reports on Her Father's Fight for Justice
Second Lt. Holley Lynn James was a dedicated Army nurse working in the maternity ward at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. But on July 10, 2008, when she failed to report for duty, friends and colleagues grew concerned and went to check on her. Inside her apartment, they found remnants of a fire and a disturbing scene - kitchen knives missing, a section of carpet cut away, and a chilling letter from her possible captor - but no sign of Lt. James.
As authorities launched an investigation, Lt. James' father, retired Sgt. Major Jesse James, began his own desperate search, determined to find his daughter and bring her home. At the same time, after finding a female soldier killed at a hotel, local police and the media received a taunting letter from someone claiming to be inspired by the Zodiac Killer, threatening more victims to come. Investigators pondered whether a serial killer was hunting female soldiers. Working together, investigators from the U.S. Army, NCIS and Fayetteville police unraveled a complex web of jealousy, violence and deception involving a volatile husband and a Marine harboring dark secrets. ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff reports on the case that captivated the nation, documenting one father's unwavering pursuit of justice - and his chilling face-to-face encounter with his daughter's killer - on an all-new "20/20: You Took My Daughter," airing FRIDAY, NOV. 7 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC, and streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
The "20/20" episode includes exclusive interviews with Lt. James' family, as well as local and federal law enforcement officials.
