On a beautiful fall morning in 2020, 24-year-old mother Alyssa Burkett arrived for work in New Carrollton, Texas, when she was shot in the head by a man in a black SUV. Miraculously, she managed to run toward her office building, but the assailant attacked her again with a hunting knife, stabbing her multiple times before fleeing. "20/20" follows police step by step as they investigate what appears to be an intensely personal attack. The discovery of an abandoned vehicle blows the case wide open and leads to an arrest. Case closed? Not quite. What the killer ultimately shares with the police reveals a possible mastermind of the shooting, who is still on the loose. Correspondent John QuiƱones reports on this case in "Ride or Die," an all-new "20/20," TUESDAY, DEC. 16, (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC and streams next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
Through real-time surveillance footage, 911 calls and police body camera video, the episode deconstructs the anatomy of the crime and the determination of law enforcement to make an arrest. "20/20" sits down exclusively with Andrew Beard, the man behind bars for Alyssa's death.
