BAD NEWS DADS (Apple TV, New!) - James Marsden is attached to star in a half-hour comedy at the streamer: "Based on the upcoming novel by Adam Frost, Bad News Dads is about an inept men's baseball rec league team where one of the players' wives dies in a suspicious accident, and the friendship-starved Ben (Marsden) leads two of his teammates in an impromptu and often misguided investigation into what they increasingly come to think was murder." Stephen Falk is behind the project with Marsden, Frost, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Robbie Rogers also executive producing for Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. (Deadline.com, 8/6)
BEST MEDICINE (FOX) - Andrea Martin will guest in an upcoming episode as Judith, "a quirky friend of Aunt Sarah's (Annie Potts). [Judith] becomes yet another townsperson to test Martin's patience. When Judith's smoking habits begin to not only affect her own health, but the safety of the town, Martin and Sarah need to get involved." (TVLine.com, 8/3)
BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES (Apple TV) - David E. Kelley's series adaptation of the famed Tom Wolfe's novel is no longer moving forward at Apple TV. Producer Warner Bros. Television plans to shop the project elsewhere. "Vanities" was previously in development at Amazon by different auspices in 2016. (Deadline.com, 8/5)
BOSTON BLUE (CBS) - Will Estes will reprise his "Blue Bloods" role of Jamie Reagan in an upcoming episode of the series. (Deadline.com, 8/7)
CABLE GUY, THE (Hulu) - Rebecca Rittenhouse has signed onto the film-turned-TV series pilot as Robin, "who recently broke up with Steven (Damon Wayans Jr.) and is searching for answers in her own life." (Deadline.com, 8/4)
DC CRIME (HBO Max) - Mary Holland will star opposite Skyler Gisondo and Jimmy Tatro in the "Superman" spin-off series as Sandra. No other character details were given. (Deadline.com, 8/3)
DISINHERITED (FX) - Avi Nash has joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Victoria Pedretti and Kiera Allen. No details about his character were given. (Variety.com, 8/5)
GOD OF WAR (Amazon) - Dave Bautista is in negotiations to play Kratos in the video game-turned-TV series, succeeding Ryan Hurst. (Deadline.com, 8/3)
HILDA! IN LIGHTS (CBS) - Abbey Caldwell's single-camera comedy has been ordered to pilot by the Eye: "Hilda! (In Lights!) is described as one of those classic shows about a plucky small-town optimist who moves to the big city to pursue her life-long dream of starring on Broadway. There's just one teeny, tiny, totally inconsequential difference... our hero Hilda is a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska with absolutely no experience." Will Graham, Max Linsky, and Tonia Davis of Invitation Media will also executive produce for CBS Studios. (Deadline.com, 8/3)
JOB TRAFFICKING (Amazon, New!) - Production is underway on a new eight-episode Hindi-language series at the streamer: "The show explores 'pig butchering," scams that involve perpetrators spending weeks or months building fake trust and false intimacy with victims online before draining them of money." Nimrat Kaur, Roshan Mathew, Kavya Trehan, and Pavan Malhotra star in the project, which comes from director Prashant Nair and producers Pratik Khanuja, Sameer Chand, Vikesh Bhutani, and Shujaat Saudagar. Select Media Holdings and Chalkboard Entertainment are producing. (Deadline.com, 8/2)
JOE DIRT (FOX, New!) - Franchise star David Spade is attached to star in a follow-up animated series at the network: "It's now 25 years later, and Joe Dirt (Spade) keeps on keepin' on. He's still in love with Brandy, his skull still hasn't un-fused with the mullet, and most of all, he's still got his eternal optimism. And he needs it - just because he's married with three teenage daughters doesn't mean his problems are over. The messes are bigger, and Joe's mop and bucket just won't cut it." Scott Gairdner is behind the project, with Spade, Fred Wolf, Doug Robinson, and Lauren Moffat also executive producing for Sony Pictures Television and Doug Robinson Productions. Spade, Wolf, and Donick Cary were behind a previous animated effort at TBS in 2010 which did not move forward. (Deadline.com, 8/6)
LALA IRL (Disney Channel/Disney+, New!) - Lala Sadii is attached to star in a proposed scripted series at the streamer: "Before she became a social media superstar, Lala Sadii was just a girl trying to fit in like everyone else. But now, as millions hang on her every post, she's got plenty to navigate: jealous classmates, intrigued friends who'd love just a little of her clout, concerned siblings, and strict parents who are absolutely going to lose their minds if they find out what she's been up to." Peter Paige is behind the project, with Sadii, Lauren Gellert, Billy Mann, Sharon Levy, and Lisa Fahrenholt also executive producing for Endemol Shine North America. (Deadline.com, 8/6)
LOL: LAST ONE LAUGHING US (Amazon) - The U.S. incarnation of the international comedy format is officially a go at Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Pankowski, Ben Winston, and Emma Conway will executive produce for Fulwell Entertainment. (Deadline.com, 8/4)
POISON DAUGHTER, THE (Hulu, New!) - The streamer is developing a TV series based on Sheila Masterson's novel: "In The Poison Daughter, every person Harlow Carrenwell kisses dies immediately, and that's the way she likes it. The poison-lipped youngest daughter of Lunameade's magical founding family has used her power to annihilate their opposition. Until one night Harlow kisses a mark and he doesn't die. Worse, her invincible partner in passion is her new betrothed, Henry Havenwood, and now he knows about her double life." 20th Television is behind the project, which is searching for a writer. REALLY BAD PERSON, A (FX, New!) - Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan have sold a new drama to the network: "In A Really Bad Person, which is said to have comedic overtones for a dramedy feel, a very relatable American girl who does the most unrelatable thing while visiting London - she pretends to be the missing daughter of a British family. It's a last-ditch effort to gain citizenship, a fresh start, and escape her complicated past." Brett Baer, Dave Finkel, and Sharon Hall will also executive produce for Legendary Entertainment and FX Productions. (Deadline.com, 8/6)
SECRET LIVES OF MORMON WIVES, THE (Hulu) - The streamer has ordered 20 more episodes of the reality series to effectively serve as its sixth and seventh seasons. That's in addition to its much-ballyhooed fifth season, which will only feature five episodes after production was halted "as a result of allegations of domestic assault against [Taylor Frankie] Paul, who was caught on camera throwing a metal stool at her ex-boyfriend." SHERLOCK'S SECRETARY (USA Network, New!) - Andy Berman has sold a new drama to the cable channel based on a true story of Gug Kyriacou: "The series follows a quirky London woman whose job is responding to the thousands of letters addressed to the world's greatest detective. After years of answering them, she unknowingly becomes the closest living thing to Sherlock Holmes - and begins investigating real mysteries arriving at 221B Baker Street." Nash Entertainment's Bruce Nash and Inspired Entertainment's Michael Van Dyke will also executive produce for FOX Entertainment Studios. Kyriacou serves as a consultant. (Deadline.com, 8/7)
SPACESHIP EARTH (Disney+, New!) - Jason Fuchs and Michael Waldron have scored a pilot order from the streamer for a potential drama based on the Disney World EPCOT attraction of the same name: "In Spaceship Earth, when a mission to avert an imminent global cataclysm goes awry, a small band of teenagers from Earth's past and future must join forces to confront a threat as vast and mysterious as time itself." Lee Toland Krieger is also on board to direct and executive produce alongside Adam Fishbach and Adam Fasullo for Anomaly Pictures, Fishbach Productions, and 20th Television. (Deadline.com, 8/6)
TASK (HBO) - The show's second season has added Tim Blake Nelson as Denny Coughlin, "a career cop who plays by his own rules, recruited to be part of Tom Brandis' Task Force"; Jharrel Jerome as Jordan Barnes, "Eddie Barnes' son"; Brían F. O'Byrne as Charlie Boylan, "a retired DEA Agent and mentor to Eddie Barnes"; Bethlehem Million as Lisa Barnes, "Eddie Barnes' daughter"; Kevin Dunn as Vince Runyan, "a no-nonsense FBI Agent and Tom Brandis' boss"; and Andrew Russel, who reprises his role as Ethan Brandis, "Tom Brandis' son." UNTITLED NEW YORK YANKEES SCRIPTED SERIES (Netflix, New!) - Josh Wakely's Grace: A Storytelling Company and Jason Bateman's Aggregate Films are set to team for a scripted series about the New York Yankees. No other details were given about the project, which Wakely and Bateman will executive produce alongside Michael Costigan, Nick Trotta, Peter Sobiloff, Mike Sobiloff, Sean Mullin, Josh Glick, Daniel Cohan, and Jon Liebman for MLB Studios and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. WARHAMMER 40,000 ANIMATED SERIES (Amazon, New!) - Amazon MGM Studios has commissioned a "Secret Level" spin-off series based on the anthology's "Warhammer 40,000" installment. John Orloff will join the episode's director Dave Wilson as co-creator with Tim Miller, Natalie Viscuso, Roy Lee, Andy Smillie, and Henry Cavill (who is attached to star in the franchise's live-action version) also executive producing for Blur Studios, Vertigo Entertainment and Games Workshop.
