The WB Serves Up 'Surreal Life 2' on Sundays
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- The WB will serve up its second helping of "The Surreal Life" come January. Six one-hour episodes of the series will begin airing Sundays at 9:00/8:00c beginning January 11.

In addition, the Frog plans to counterprogram CBS' broadcast of the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1 with back-to-back encore presentations of the season's first three episodes. New installments will then resume airing the following week leading up to the season finale on Sunday, February 22.

This year's cast includes former televangelist's wife Tammy Faye Messner, porn legend Ron Jeremy, rapper Vanilla Ice, "ChiPs" icon Erik Estrada, former "Baywatch" actress Traci Bingham and "Real World: Las Vegas" cast member Trishelle.

Here's how the WB describes the new edition (via press release):

The show features a multigenerational group of familiar faces from yesterday's headlines living together in a Hollywood mansion for two weeks. While the roommates can come and go as they please, they'll be required to interact with one another, share bedrooms and bathrooms, do household chores, go grocery shopping and prepare meals together. Their surreal life story is captured on camera during an around-the-clock shooting schedule.

The cast takes several "field trips" during production including a revealing visit to a nudist colony; Tammy Faye's book signing; waiting tables at a legendary Sunset Strip greasy spoon as well as Ron Jeremy's pool party. Other celebrities like Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges, Andy Dick, Sally Jesse Raphael and Vince Neil (who starred in the first installment of THE SURREAL LIFE) also stop by to join the fun.

Cris Abrego & Rick Telles ("Next Action Star," "Surf Girls") and Mark Cronin ("The Howard Stern Show," "Beat the Geeks") created the series and serve as executive producers, along with Jay Renfroe and David Garfinkle ("Blind Date"). "The Surreal Life" is produced by Mindless Entertainment & Brass Ring Entertainment.
