CBS Unveils the Identities of the 18 New 'Survivor' Castaways and Announces They Will Compete in Tribes of Men VS. Women in 'Survivor: Vanuatu -- Islands of Fire'

CBS UNVEILS THE IDENTITIES OF THE 18 NEW SURVIVOR CASTAWAYS AND ANNOUNCES THEY WILL COMPETE IN TRIBES OF MEN VS. WOMEN IN "SURVIVOR: VANUATU -- ISLANDS OF FIRE"

Ninth Installment of Hit Television Series To Premiere Thursday, Sept. 16 on CBS

The identities of the 18 new castaways who will compete on SURVIVOR: VANUATU -- ISLANDS OF FIRE were unveiled today on CBS News' THE EARLY SHOW. The castaways will compete in separate tribes of men versus women when the ninth installment of the hit series premieres Thursday, Sept. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

SURVIVOR: VANUATU -- ISLANDS OF FIRE takes place on the islands of Vanuatu, located in the remote waters of the South Pacific near the tumultuous "Ring Of Fire," a land of volcanoes and rituals where sorcery and black magic are a part of tribal life and the spirits of the dead are believed to have power over the living. More than 80 islands are home to more than 100 languages and a diverse group of tribes and clans whose history includes cannibalism.

Eighteen strangers will be stranded in the remote area of Vanuatu to vie for the title of "Ultimate Survivor" and win $1 million. This diverse group of individuals with varying backgrounds and geographic origins will be split into two teams, men vs. women, who must work to find food, water and shelter in order to exist. SURVIVOR: VANUATU -- ISLANDS OF FIRE will chronicle the relationships and conflicts that develop as strangers test their limits in various challenging situations that force them to rely on one another to survive, yet compete against each other to become the Ultimate Survivor.
