Cartoon Network Enterprises Announces Winners of The Powerpuff Girls Style Heroes Model Search
Three Winners Travel to Cartoon Network Headquarters in Atlanta for Television Appearance, Photo Session and Weekend of Glamour and Shopping
Cartoon Network has selected three winners of its Powerpuff Girls Style Heroes Model Search, which began in June, it today announced. The winners are Darcey Leigh Ripley, 15, of Fort Stockton, Texas; Jennifer Cowitz, 15, of Woodside, Calif; and Julia Rodriguez, 11, of Waterbury, Conn.
Applicants were asked to write two essays: one detailing which Powerpuff Girl the entrant most resembled and why, and the other detailing contributions to the applicants local community. More than 1,000 entries were received.
Every girl who watches The Powerpuff Girls immediately thinks of herself as either a Bubbles, a Blossom or a Buttercup, said Julie Gibbons, senior director of marketing for Cartoon Network Enterprises. The Style Heroes Model Search was a great way to identify three girls who fit the spirit of these powerful characters and give them a chance to represent them in our high-profile brand marketing campaign.
Darcy (who thought she most resembled brainy Blossom), Julia (a real-life Buttercup), and Jennifer (the groups sweet Bubbles) will be whisked away for a fun and glamour-filled weekend in Atlanta Sept. 23-25. Each girl will receive prizes valued at more than $2,500, and all the girls will bring a parent or guardian with her on the big weekend. The activities scheduled for the contest winners include:
- Taping an appearance on Fridays, Cartoon Networks popular weekend franchise, at Turner Studios.
- A fashion photo shoot, with images to appear in national catalogs.
- A shopping spree at Lenox Square, Atlantas upscale mall.
- A carriage ride through downtown Atlanta.
- Manicures and pedicures at a local spa.
- Meals at some of Atlantas trendiest restaurants.
- Limousine transportation to all destinations and activities.
- The Style Heroes Model Search was open to girls ages 6-18 who are U.S. citizens. Focusing on entrants core values and character, entries were judged on responses to questions describing how girls save the day in their town. Judges from ElleGirl magazine and Delias and Alloy catalogs chose nine finalists (three for each character) whose information was posted at www.ppgstyle.com. Then users of the site selected the three ultimate winners.
The contest was part of the marketing effort to support Dont Just Dream, a new Powerpuff Girls licensed product line headed to stores this fall. Cartoon Network Enterprises, the consumer product division of Cartoon Network, worked with licensees to launch the new fashion collection featuring the popular threesome as the stylish teenagers they aspire to be. Every little girl dreams of what it will be like when they grow up, and Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup are no exception. The new look features the Girls with longer flowing hair, a taller frame and a lot of attitude, taking them from television kindergartners to stylish trendsetters. The collection, entitled Dont Just Dream, includes T-shirts, cosmetics, bedding, shoes and watches and gives The Powerpuff Girls a more sophisticated, fashion-forward sense of style. The new line will hit major national, specialty and boutique retailers for back-to-school and Holiday 2004.
