Lifetime Television Begins Production on Reality Series About a Year in the Life of a Championship High School Cheerleading Team
- Series Explores Mother-Daughter Relationships -
NEW YORK, Nov. 28 -- Taking viewers inside the dizzying world
of parenting teenage girls -- from rivalries, friendships, boyfriends, acne,
teachers and wrong shoes, to competing for a national athletic championship --
Lifetime Television is going into production on a new reality series from the
producers of "Wickedly Perfect" and "FM Nation," about the roller coaster
relationship of mothers and their daughters on a high school cheerleading
team.
In announcing "Cheerleader Nation" (wt), her first non-scripted series
since becoming President of Entertainment in September, Susanne Daniels said,
"This is a story about 23 girls -- and 23 sets of parents. Filled with all the
humor and heartbreak of adolescence, this series brings us into the lives of
these competitive adolescent girls as they and their mothers struggle,
together, to balance the difficult demands of high school. 'Cheerleader
Nation' is as much about parenting as about cheerleading. It's a perfect show
for Lifetime and we're delighted to work with Laurie Girion and Fox Television
Studios on this terrific project."
Among the featured girls from Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky --
looking for an unprecedented third straight national cheerleading title -- are
the homecoming queen who seems to have it all; the rebel who wants to quit;
the honor student whose football-loving father has adopted the team as his
passion project; and the freshman whose mother has driven her since the age of
five to be the best cheerleader of them all.
Executive produced by Laurie Girion ("R U the Girl?" "Wickedly Perfect,"
"Last Comic Standing 2") and produced by Fox Television Studios for Lifetime
Television, the series is scheduled to premiere in early 2006.
