Geena Davis Receives Her First Nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series

The ABC Television Network received 11 nominations for the 12th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which honors outstanding performances in acting. The nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles.

The 11 nominations place ABC ahead of all other broadcast networks and in a tie with HBO in total nominations for television.

"Boston Legal" received four nominations, securing its place as the broadcast television network program with the most single nominations and putting the show in a tie with HBO's "Empire Falls" as the most nominated single show on all of television. "Boston Legal's nominations include Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series; William Shatner and James Spader are both nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. Candice Bergen is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. This marks Shatner and Spader's first Screen Actors Guild nominations. Bergen earns her third nomination in this category and second ensemble nomination. Previous nominations in this category were for her role in "Murphy Brown."

"Grey's Anatomy" received three nominations, including Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series; Patrick Dempsey was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and Sandra Oh for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. This marks Dempsey's first nomination in this category, and Oh's first in this category and second overall.

"Desperate Housewives" received two nominations, including Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series; Felicity Huffman was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. In addition to Huffman's two television nominations (Ensemble and Female Actor), she was also nominated in the motion picture category Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in "Transamerica," making her the most nominated actor among the nominees. She took home the award in 2005 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series category for "Desperate Housewives."

Other ABC nominees included "Lost" for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and Geena Davis was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

A total of 2100 SAG members from across the United States chose this year's Actor(r) nominees. The 2006 Screen Actors Guild Awards will be presented Sunday, January 29th, 2006, in Los Angeles.
