EMMY AND GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEE NELL CARTER STARS IN THE HILARIOUS AND TOUCHING '80S SITCOM GIMME A BREAK! SEASON ONE

Making its DVD Debut with Exclusive Bonus Features February 14, 2006 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- January 30, 2006 -- The complete first season of Gimme a Break!, starring Nell Carter in her twice Emmy and Golden Globe nominated role as memorable and beloved housekeeper-turned-surrogate mother Nellie Ruth 'Nell' Harper, comes to DVD for the first time February 14, 2006 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. This classic comedy series follows the story of the Kanisky family; Carl, a recently widowed chief of police and his daughters Katie, Julie and Samantha. With unflappable Nell providing enough love and laughs to hold the family together, the show is by turns funny, timely and often poignant. Also starring Dolph Sweet as Carl Kanisky and Kari Michaelson, Lauri Hendler and Lara Jill Miller as his rapidly maturing daughters, all 19 laugh-filled episodes from Gimme a Break!'s premiere season bring back the fun and fashion of the fabulous '80s.

Rue McClanahan, Danny Glover, Helen Hunt, and Jay Johnson are just some of the familiar faces who guest star on this unforgettable sitcom. The three-disc set also includes a special preview episode from Season Two of Gimme a Break! and bonus episodes from the smash '80s hits "Kate & Allie" and "Charles in Charge," plus "The Great '80s TV Flashback," an extra special 30-minute look back at television's greatest decade, the eighties. The DVD is priced at $34.98 SRP.

SYNOPSIS
Gruff Police Chief Carl Kanisky (Dolph Sweet) needs some serious assistance raising his three adolescent daughters after his wife's death. Help arrives in the form of Nellie Ruth Harper (Nell Carter), a feisty and unflappable housekeeper-turned-surrogate mom for Katie, Julie and Samantha Kanisky. Nell's wisecracking ways and down-to-earth advice sometimes hide her unconditional love and support for her adopted family, but she's always there to guide the girls through hilarity and heartbreak ? and the chief through the perils of a house full of women. Available on DVD for the first time, Gimme A Break! Season One is a delightful return to a classic 1980's story of love, laughter and growing up.
