NEW YORK, May 22, 2006COMEDY CENTRAL gives local news a whole new meaning with the series premiere of "Dog Bites Man." The tenepisode series is part improvisational and part mockumentary, featuring a group of dysfunctional fake newscasters interacting with real people in front of the camera and behind the scenes of KHBX, a fictitious local news station in Spokane, WA. "Dog Bites Man" premieres on Wednesday, June 7 at 10:30 p.m.
Encore presentations of "Dog Bites Man" air Wednesday at 12:30 a.m., Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 11:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.
Produced by Dan Mazer ("Da Ali G Show"), "Dog Bites Man" is a fresh combination of narrative comedy and improvisation as the faux news team hits the road to "report" on actual events while interviewing and interacting with real people who are oblivious to the fact that this eccentric news team is actually a talented group of actors.
Pulling off this difficult fusion of fiction and reality are series stars Zach Galifianakis ("Tru Calling," "Comedians of Comedy"), A.D. Miles ("Stella," "Wet Hot American Summer"), Andrea Savage ("Significant Others") and Matt Walsh ("Upright Citizens Brigade," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart").
In the series premiere, producer Tillie Sullivan (Savage), once a secretary at the station, triumphantly returns to Spokane's KHBX to produce stories for the station's morning show. Unfortunately, she quickly finds herself in over her head when she's assigned to work with on-air talent Kevin Beekin (Walsh), the reporter she once dated; Marty Shonson (Miles), a production assistant who moonlights as the worst stand-up comic in the Pacific Northwest; and Alan Finger (Galifianakis), a director who is one genital reference shy of a major sexual harassment suit. With deadlines looming and cameras rolling, this peculiar crew gives viewers a new perspective on local news and narrative comedy in its inept attempts to chase down the big stories, leaving innocent bystanders and journalistic integrity in its wake.
Following the June 7 series premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL, the entire episode will be made available on COMEDY CENTRAL's "MotherLoad" beginning June 8 and as a free download on iTunes from June 8-15.
The "Dog Bites Man" site on www.comedycentral.com will be rich with exclusive video, including show outtakes, in-depth profile pieces for each character, exclusive character interviews, an "Anatomy of a News Story" piece and some Web-only stand-up by PA Marty Shonson.
