Santa Monica, CA October 4, 2006 MTV: Music Television announced today the launch of the new season of The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel on a new night Thursday, October 12th at 10:00PM (ET/PT). The new season is set on the majestic beaches of Buzios, Brazil and promises to keep faithful followers on their toes. Along with bringing back some of the most notorious cast members, a brand new game has been designed that is sure to generate plenty of drama, and to guarantee the scheming, backstabbing and all out war that everyone has come to expect from the challenges. This season, 20 cast members will live together in an estate overlooking the ocean and compete in 16 different challenges with the ultimate winners taking home a purse of $300,000. For the first time ever, there will be no teams.

Host and pro BMX dirt jumper TJ Lavin returns to guide the cast members through some of the most grueling challenges ever in this no holds barred battle to the finish. In past challenges, cast members have voted to get someone out of the game. This time, its about who they will keep in the game. Heres how it works

The individual winner of each challenge will be safe from elimination, but before leaving the challenge site, the winner will immediately select one member of the opposite sex to join them in the Safety Zone. It is now up to the cast member that was just chosen to pick the next person of the opposite sex to be safe. This will continue until there is only one person left. The last person will automatically be one of the two people doomed to battle for survival in The Duel but there is a catch, this individual will have the immediate opportunity to pick anyone of the same gender (except the winner of the challenge) to be his or her opponent in the Duel. Once the pair is determined the two competitors fight it out and the winner will stay in the game and the loser will be banished from the game and sent home immediately.

Leading up to one of the most down and dirty seasons of the Challenge yet, MTV will offer a variety of additional content surrounding The Duel launch. Starting on 9/29 MTV.com will launch Beth's Most Trouble-Makery Moments, a look back at the notorious cast members most menacing moments. Then on 10/5 watch a sneak peek of the premiere episode of The Duel, plus the series trailer. On 10/12 after watching an episode of The Duel, viewers can go to MTV.com and continue to feed their Challenge addiction with Duel: The After Show hosted by Blair Herter, former Road Rules (The Quest) personality, as he gets his Duel cast member guests to spill the dirt without holding anything back. Also returning to The After Show is the The S#!& You Didnt See, a plethora of hilarious moments and outtakes that didnt make the episodes but should have. Plus, fans will be able to watch all of their favorite episodes on-demand and online any time they want. MTV.com is the destination for the tune in information, weekly photo updates, meet the cast and much more.
