Top Crime-Fighting Show Targets Medal of Honor Thefts
The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest military award the nation bestows, and the most prestigious combat medal recognizing valor in action against enemy forces. Its the only military medal directly presented to the recipient, or to his or her survivors, by the President of the United States. The mysterious story of a collection of historic Medals of Honor, believed to be stolen, will be featured on AMERICAS MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK Saturday, Feb. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
On June 27, 2004, the curator of the Medal of Honor Museum, located aboard the dry-docked U.S.S. Yorktown near Fort Sumter, SC, discovered that the glass in a display case had been shattered, and that seven one-of-a-kind Medals of Honor were gone. The stolen medals had been awarded to soldiers going as far back as the Civil War, through the Boxer Rebellion, World War II and Vietnam, and had been personally bestowed by Presidents including Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. The FBI was called in, since stealing these medals is a federal crime. But after more than two years, the medals are still missing. Now, law enforcement and the proud members of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society have turned to AMERICAS MOST WANTED for help in recovering these priceless items.
Saturdays AMW episode will feature Correspondent Tom Morris investigation into the Medal of Honor thefts. Morris will shed light on a black market populated by shady collectors, and the bizarre phenomenon of people fraudulently claiming to have been awarded the CMOH and other military decorations. AMERICAS MOST WANTED host John Walsh will ask viewers to call the programs anonymous Hotline, 1-800-CRIME-TV, with tips that could help restore the stolen honors to their rightful place, so that our nations heroes get the recognition for which theyve fought and died.
AMERICAS MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK is produced by STF Productions, Inc. Lance Heflin is executive producer.
