"COPS" WARRANTS AN ARRESTING 20TH SEASON MILESTONE AND CELEBRATES ITS 700TH EPISODE THIS FALL ON FOX

20th Season Anniversary Special Edition to Air Tuesday, Sept. 18

700th Episode Airs Saturday, Nov. 10

Since the pioneering reality series debuted in 1989, COPS has consistently outperformed its competition and has cemented its place in history as one of the longest-running primetime entertainment programs. The Emmy Award-nominated COPS maintains its position as the No. 1 show among Adults 18-49 Saturdays (8:00-8:30 and 8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Instrumental in launching the reality genre with its video vrit style, COPS has penetrated the American psyche unlike any other show in television history, and has earned a place in popular culture. Stats from the past 20 seasons include:

COPS has filmed in over 140 U.S. cities

2,044 arrests have been made on COPS

The oldest arrestee was 90 years old (for battery)

The youngest arrestee was 7 years old (for a bike theft)

Roughly 120 hours of footage goes into one broadcast segment

As COPS celebrates its 20th season, viewers should fasten their seat belts for a jaw-dropping ride down memory lane, featuring classic COPS car chases, super-inebriated suspects, sizzling Tasers, disheartening domestics, problematic perps and gutsy officers from coast to coast, all showcased in a commemorative one-hour special, COPS: 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION airing Tuesday, Sept. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Approaching 700 episodes, COPS also basks in the triumph of inspiring many imitators, a satirical cable series and a feature film. COPS cameras have filmed in Hong Kong, London, Central America, South America, Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the show airs internationally in over 120 countries.

The COPS 700th episode airing Saturday, Nov. 11 (8:008:30 PM ET/PT) will celebrate the milestone with a vintage, action-packed, half-hour of cameras following officers as they patrol and encounter unpredictable suspects and circumstances.

John Langley is the creator and executive producer of COPS for Langley Productions, Inc. in association with FTS. COPS is currently syndicated to more than 90 percent of the country.
