CBS and TiVo Form Research Partnership

CBS Enlists TiVo Research Tools to Help Clients Learn How to Keep TV Advertising Effective in the DVR Age

Second Major Television Network to Sign onto TiVo's Ratings Service

ALVISO, Calif., Jan. 31 -- TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO), the creator and a leader in advertising solutions and television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), announced today that CBS Corporation, the number one most watched television network in primetime and a recognized leader in television research, has entered into a research partnership with TiVo.

Through TiVo's Stop||Watch(TM) service, which provides the industry's only second-by-second measurement of program and specific commercial ratings for both live and time-shifted viewing, CBS will have access to the industry's richest insights into DVR viewing behavior. This partnership will allow CBS to develop and measure new strategies to deliver results for its advertising clients, including learning how to structure pods and interstitials to better keep audience attention during commercial breaks, and develop new and improved promotional strategies for time-shifted viewers to build audiences for its programs.

Todd Juenger, Vice President & General Manager, TiVo Audience Research & Measurement. said, "We are pleased at how quickly the television industry has embraced TiVo's state-of-the-art research capabilities through the Stop||Watch(TM) service. There is no more important issue to the business of television than understanding the impact of DVRs on viewing behavior. We believe CBS is taking advantage of a remarkable opportunity to help their clients assess and adapt their strategies in the age of the DVR."

"As more and more television viewers add the DVR to their home entertainment systems and make the transition from linear to non-linear viewers, we at the networks must adapt to serve both these newly empowered viewers and the advertisers seeking to communicate with them," said David F. Poltrack, Chief Research Officer, CBS Corporation and President of CBS Vision. "TiVo, through its user database and its innovative Stop||Watch(TM) research software, offers us the opportunity to analyze television viewing behavior and develop strategies to maximize the impact of our advertisers' messages and product placement arrangements in this new non-linear viewing environment. We also look forward to working with TiVo in the utilization of this research resource to enhance our program promotion and to gathering valuable feedback concerning the performance of these programs."

The TiVo Stop||Watch(TM) data are derived from a daily, anonymous, stratified random sample of 20,000 TiVo units -- from which the second-by-second "clickstream" of behavior and viewership is collected and assessed. The TiVo Stop||Watch(TM) service is a syndicated research service, sold primarily on a subscription basis. Clients access the TiVo Stop||Watch(TM) service via an interactive, online suite of reports. The TiVo Stop||Watch(TM) service has been commercially available since February 2007, and has data going back to September 2006. The TiVo Stop||Watch(TM) reports break down key data for: Total Viewing, Live Viewing, Timeshifted Viewing (less than 1 hour, 1-6 hours, 24-28 hours, 48-72 hours, 3-7 day, and 7-14 day delay), Program Ratings, Commercial Ratings and a Commercial Viewership Index.

Additional subscribers to TiVo's Stop||Watch(TM) service include: NBC Universal, The Interpublic Group, Starcom, Carat USA, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Media IQ and Euro RSCG New York.
