G4 EXPANDS "DUTY FREE TV" BLOCK OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMING WITH TWO NEW BRITISH COMEDY SERIES
"Freaky" and "The Peter Serafinowicz Show" Debut August 1 on G4
LOS ANGELES, July 28, 2008 Scanning the globe to find original cutting-edge programming, G4 has imported two new series for the network's "Duty Free TV" nightly international programming block. British comedy series "Freaky" and "The Peter Serafinowicz Show" will make their U.S. premieres this summer on G4. "The Peter Serafinowicz Show" debuts Friday, August 1 at 8:30 PM ET/PT, followed by "Freaky" at 9:00 PM ET/PT, only on G4.
"G4 is a network of 'early adopters' who are constantly seeking out what's new be that technology or entertainment. This is the premise of our Duty Free TV block of international programming, which serves as the perfect place to showcase these cutting-edge new shows," said Neal Tiles, President, G4.
"Freaky" is a fresh, funny and outrageous take on magic that is aimed at young, street-wise viewers who wouldn't be caught dead in the audience of a typical magician. The "Kings of the Curious" are far from the typical, run-of-the-mill magicians. They are six talented young performers who ply their wares anywhere an unsuspecting audience can be found; on the streets, in a fish market, or in their own electronic performance spaces.
"Freaky" is a compelling kaleidoscope of lightning fast-moving segments that leaves viewers asking "how on earth did they do that?" From the mind-boggling disappearing stunts performed by Majestic Malene and Freakmeister Phil, to the truly unbelievable card tricks and other antics of Nige, David and Tariq, the "Kings of the Curious" are a new generation of showmen whose feats of wonder provide the perfect antidote to boring summertime TV options. The series will deliver eight, half-hour episodes.
"The Peter Serafinowicz Show" features the acclaimed Brit comic actor doing what he does best - being somebody else. Peter Serafinowicz, who was recently named Best Entertainer at this year's Rose D'Or International Television Awards, portrays a wide range of offbeat characters that have won him a legion of fans abroad and he pulls out all the stops in this six-part half-hour comedy series.
This is sketch comedy performed by a master of disguise and interpretation whose irreverent parodies of commercials, films and TV series are beyond compare. From foppish Hollywood news reporter Kennedy St. King to a gay Sherlock Holmes, Serafinowicz presents a nonstop cacophony of well-known personalities like Al Pacino, Simon Cowell, Alan Alda and numerous other celebrities the rubber-faced comedian recreates with dead-on accuracy.
G4's international programming, which includes "Ninja Warrior," "Unbeatable Banzuke" and "Super Big Product Fun Show," has reached over 27 million unique viewers since the launch of "Duty Free TV" in February 2008. The international programming delivers a +22% advantage over G4's total day average.
