LIFE ON MARS (ABC) - TV Guide has confirmed Gretchen Mol ("Rounders") has joined the cast of the revamped drama, about a modern-day detective (Jason O'Mara) who is transported to 1973. She'll play Annie Norris, "a member of the Police Women's Bureau, making do with menial tasks and combating the sexism of the times, despite being the smartest person in the squad room." Mol takes over for Rachelle Lefevre, who played said role in the original pilot.
THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO (CBS, New!) - Sheldon Turner ("The Longest Yard"), Robert Port ("NUMB3RS") and Simon West ("Keen Eddie") are set to team for a contemporary remake of the classic 1970s cop series that starred Michael Douglas and Karl Malden. Turner and Port are penning the hour, which has a script commitment from the network, with West attached to direct should it move forward to pilot. The new "Streets" reportedly will keep the original's formula intact - from the names (Steve Keller and Mike Stone) to the generational conflict between the partners. CBS Paramount Network Television, which owns the rights to the Quinn Martin Productions original, is producing the update. Turner and Port will also executive produce with West and producing partner Jib Polhemus serving as co-executive producers.
