LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
24 (FOX) - Tim Guinee ("Iron Man") has booked a multi-episode arc on the show's upcoming seventh season. He'll play a reporter. Additional details about his character weren't released.
BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO) - Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese is in negotiations to direct the drama pilot, which chronicles the 1920s origins of gambling mecca Atlantic City. Scorsese is already executive producing the hour alongside Terence Winter, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson. The news would mark Scorsese's first TV helming work since an episode of Steven Spielberg's mid-'80s anthology series "Amazing Stories."
LAST OF THE NINTH (HBO) - Michael Gaston ("Jericho"), Lily Rabe ("What Just Happened"), Michael Raymond-James ("True Blood"), Fredric Lehne ("Lost") and Clifton Powell have all been cast in the pilot, a gritty 1970s cop drama that centers on Joe Dalton (Jonah Lotan), a young Vietnam veteran-tuned undercover cop, and veteran detective John Giglio (Ray Winstone). Gaston will play the lieutenant in charge of the 9th Precinct where the show is set with Rabe as a plainclothes cop and a potential love interest for Dalton; Lehne as a bright detective with a drinking problem; Raymond-James as a macho narcotics detective; and Powell as an unspecified detective.
SAINTS & SINNERS (A&E, New!) - The cable channel reportedly has completed production on a pilot for a reality series about the Set Free Soldiers, a controversial Anaheim-based Christian motorcycle gang. The Firm ("Criss Angel: Mindfreak") and Outfit Media Group are behind the project, which was revealed following the arrest of said gang's leader and six members this week on suspicion of attempted murder stemming from a double stabbing on July 27 that occurred during a barfight with members of Hells Angels. It's understood however the actual pilot revolves around a SFS halfway house where bikers reform alcoholics and drug addicts, none of whom were involved with the altercation according to a spokesperson for the network.
WILD BOYS (FOX, New!) - Carlos Coto ("24") is set to team with Brett Ratner ("Prison Break") for a new hourlong action comedy about ex-soldiers turned suburban dads. FOX has given a script commitment to the project (with a penalty attached), which sees the group selling themselves as guns for hire after the economic downturn puts them out of work as contractors in the Washington, D.C. suburbs. The potential series is set up at 20th Century Fox Television, where Coto is in the middle of an overall deal. Ratner then is expected to direct should it move forward and his schedule permit.
