JEOPARDY!, THE NATION'S #1 QUIZ SHOW, CELEBRATES ITS 25th ANNIVERSARY AT THE TOP OF ITS GAME
The most Emmy-honored quiz show in television history, Jeopardy! will embark upon its landmark 25th season of syndication dominance Monday, September 8, 2008.
America's Favorite Quiz Show, hosted by pop cultural icon Alex Trebek, will kick off season 25 with a special Kids Week Reunion reuniting 15 players who were 10 to 12 years old when they competed in the first Kids Week shows in 1999 and 2000. Viewers can catch up with all the players to see how these bright students have grown up since their very first appearance on Jeopardy! nearly a decade ago.
Jeopardy!, which is broadcast in High Definition (HD), will be the first-ever game show to tape episodes from the convention floor of the world's largest consumer electronics trade show (CES) in Las Vegas in January 2009. A newly designed, state-of-the-art set featuring the latest in electronic equipment will play host to the prestigious Tournament of Champions and a special Celebrity Jeopardy! competition, both scheduled to air in the spring.
Throughout the year-long celebration of the silver anniversary, viewers will be treated to in-show updates about noteworthy contestants and how their big winnings on Jeopardy! changed their lives. Have a question for Alex Trebek? This season, Trebek will personally address a variety of the most frequently asked questions about the show and his tenure as Jeopardy!'s charismatic and award-winning host. The segment, "Ask Alex," will air during select episodes throughout the year.
"2008 is certainly a dynamic year for Jeopardy!" adds Executive Producer Harry Friedman. "We are delighted to offer our viewers an entire season full of unique tournaments, special in-show segments celebrating our 25 years and, of course, more entertaining, challenging game material played by very talented contestants."
Throughout the season, Jeopardy! will feature some of today's most popular celebrities "battling it out" for champion status, with their winnings going to their favorite charities.
In keeping with its tradition of producing trademark theme weeks, Jeopardy! will present a variety of competitions during the 2008-2009 season that include the Teen Tournament, Kids Week and the College Championship.
Jeopardy!, a winner of 28 Emmy awards since its debut in 1984, was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most awards won by a TV Game Show. With nearly 39 million viewers a week, the series is the #1-rated quiz show in syndication, and has held that title for over 1,000 weeks.
Jeopardy! is produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company. It is distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and internationally by CBS Paramount International Television, both units of CBS Corp.
