Development Update: Tuesday, June 23
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

LIE TO ME (FOX) - Incoming showrunner Shawn Ryan, via his Twitter account, has confirmed the show's writing staff for its upcoming second season. He'll be joined by "The Unit" alums Daniel Voll and Sharon Lee Watson; departing "Dollhouse" co-executive producers Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain; "Prison Break" veterans Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora; relative newcomers Alex Cary and Ethan Drogin; and first year returnees T.J. Brady, Rasheed Newson and Sam Baum. Presumably not returning then are consulting producers David Hemingson and Tom Szentgyorgyi; supervising producer Josh Singer; co-executive producer Dustin Thomason; and executive producer Steven Maeda.

SMALLVILLE (The CW) - "The Tudors" alum Callum Blue has been tapped to play General Zod in the show's new season. Terence Stamp played said character in its feature film incarnation. Stamp currently recurs on the series as the voice of Clark Kent's father, Jor-El. No specifics however were given about Blue's incarnation.

THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP (HBO) - Peter Morgan has stepped down as director of the upcoming telefilm, about "the unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s." He'll be replaced by Richard Loncraine ("My House in Umbria") with Morgan staying on as the project's writer/executive producer. No reason for the change was given other than speculation over Morgan's increased workload since being tapped to write the next James Bond film. As for "Relationship," the film's cast includes Dennis Quaid as President Clinton, Michael Sheen as Prime Minister Blair, Julianne Moore as Hillary Clinton and Helen McCrory as Cherie Blair. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Andy Harries and Christine Langan also serve as executive producers with Frank Doelger, Tracey Scoffield and Ann Wingate producing.
