ALIEN NATION (Sci Fi, New!) - Tim Minear ("Drive") and Fox 21 are developing another small screen revival of the 1988 feature film-turned-cult television series at the cable channel. Like its previous incarnations, "Alien" will center on the partnership between a veteran cop and his alien detective partner whose race is attempting to assimilate into Earth society. As for specifics, it's believed Minear's take will be set the Pacific Northwest and in the near future (the 2020s), about 20 years after the first ship of aliens arrived. Mandy Patinkin and James Caan toplined the theatrical version while Eric Pierpoint and Gary Graham spearheaded the TV version.
ALL JACKED UP (CMT, New!) - C. Thomas Howell is set to host a new reality series at the cable channel in which he travels "the country in search of outlandish, funny and extreme stunts, sports, events, people and inventions." John Irwin and his Irwin Entertainment are behind the half-hour, which is set to launch on Saturday, August 22 at 8:30/7:30c. Eight episodes are set to be produced with its subjects ranging from "eating contests and ostrich racing to demolition derbies, jet-powered outhouses and chainsaw jugglers."
DEFYING GRAVITY (ABC) - The Alphabet has acquired the broadcast rights to the internationally produced series, about eight astronauts in the near future who undertake a mysterious six-year mission through the solar system. Fox TV Studios, Impossible Pictures and Omni Film Productions are behind the 13-episode project, which stars Ron Livingston, Laura Harris, Christina Cox, Malik Yoba and Florentine Lahme. ABC is set to launch the series this summer, however no air date has been announced. James Parriott created the project and serves as an executive producer alongside Michael Edelstein, Brian Hamilton and Michael Chechik. "Gravity" is one of three international co-productions from Fox TV Studios, the others being FOX's "Mental" and the yet-to-be-cleared-in-the-U.S. "Persons Unknown."
