QUICK TAKE

"MILLIONAIRE" HISTORY WAS MADE SUNDAY, AUGUST 23 WHEN KEN BASIN RISKED EVERYTHING TO ANSWER THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION...

BUT LOST, AND WENT HOME WITH $25,000 INSTEAD

For the first time in the history of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" in the U.S., a contestant took a shot at the million dollar question and got it wrong. Ken Basin, an entertainment lawyer from Los Angeles, California, walked away with $25,000 in winnings after incorrectly guessing the answer to the million dollar question on Sunday's finale episode of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" with Regis Philbin.

ONE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION:

Category, 'Bottoms Up!' "For ordering his favorite beverages on demand, LBJ had four buttons installed in the Oval Office labeled 'coffee,' '"tea,' 'Coke' and what?"

A: Fresca, B: V8, C: Yoo-hoo, D: A&W."

Ken used his "Ask the Audience" lifeline and the studio audience voted as follows: A=15% B=12% C=40% D=33%. At this point, Ken had the option of not guessing and walking away with the guaranteed $500,000 that he had already won. He decided to trust the studio audience, despite the fact that there was a slim margin between C and D. Ken guessed C, but unfortunately the correct answer was A, so fell back to $25,000 in winnings.

As a surprise to the players who didn't advance from the fastest-finger round to the Hot Seat, Regis Philbin and visiting celebrity Meredith Vieira informed them that they're all going to appear as contestants on the syndicated version of "Millionaire," hosted by Vieira, when it returns on September 7 (check local listings).

"Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" is produced by Valleycrest Productions Ltd. Michael Davies is executive producer.
