Development Update: Tuesday, October 6
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BROKEN (FX, New!) - Screenwriter Sheldon Turner ("Up in the Air") has booked a drama script at the network about "an investigative journalist for the New Orleans Gazette who is so frustrated by the breakdown of social and governmental institutions that he takes on a sideline pursuit as a vigilante." The news marks the second project from Turner and his Apartment 3B producing partner Jennifer Klein. Last month, the pair sold an untitled hour from Ali Adler and Josh Schwartz to ABC. As for "Broken," Turner is penning the drama for Fox 21.

GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - "Lipstick Jungle" alum Kim Raver has scored a recurring role on the popular drama. She'll play a new surgeon beginning with the season's ninth episode. No specifics about her character however were released.

PARENTHOOD (NBC) - Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls") is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming drama. Said development comes after Helen Hunt passed on joining the show's ensemble as producers are currently searching for a replacement for Maura Tierney, who had to bow out due to her breast cancer treatments. Graham would play Sarah, one of four adult siblings (the others played by Peter Krause, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard), in the family drama who's forced to move back home with their parents (Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson).
