"SWORDS: LIFE ON THE LINE" IS RENEWED FOR SECOND SEASON

Discovery Channels Hit High Seas Adventure Series Returns With All-New Episodes

(Silver Spring, Md.) - SWORDS: LIFE ON THE LINE, the hit documentary series that showcases the lives of New England's long line fisherman, will return for a second season of high risk adventure in the North Atlantic, it was announced today by John Ford, president and general manager of The Discovery Channel. Produced by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia company, and BermanBraun, the second season of SWORDS is slated to premiere early next year with all-new episodes.

"SWORDS is a potent mix of unbelievable footage and unforgettable characters," said Ford. "The show captures the grit, guts and humor its takes for these men and women to conquer the high seas and high stakes of sword fishing," said Ford.

SWORDS, which debuted Tuesday, August 11 following SHARK WEEK, consistently ranked #1 in the M25-54 demographic for all regular nonfiction cable series throughout its 8-week run. The show delivered strong ratings growth for Discovery Channel, posting double-digit year-over-year time slot (TUE 9PM-10PM) gains for P2+ (+20% to 1391K), P25-54 (+47% to 847K), M25-54 (+73% to 600K), P18-49 (+36% to 824K) and M18-49 (+58% to 585K).

SWORDS takes viewers into the high risk lives of New England's long line fishermen. These men and women are gamblers, risking all to catch an elusive prey in some of the most dangerous waters on the planet. Swordfish, the magnificent giants of the deep, can weigh over a thousand pounds and the best time to catch them is every fall when they can be found in the stormy waters of the North Atlantic the home of the infamous and deadly "perfect storm" of 1991.

SWORDS is produced for Discovery Channel by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia company, and BermanBraun. Thom Beers, Philip D. Segal and Jeff Conroy are executive producers for Original Productions. Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun are executive producers for BermanBraun. Josh Berkely is executive producer for Discovery Channel.
