SUNNY WITH A CHANCE OF HOMICIDE
A&E PRESENTS NEW SCRIPTED DRAMA SERIES 'THE GLADES' STARRING MATT PASSMORE, KIELE SANCHEZ AND CARLOS GOMEZ
POLICE PROCEDURAL SET NEAR THE FLORIDA EVERGLADES PREMIERES TUESDAY, JULY 13th AT 10PM ET/PT
NEW YORK, NY - April 21, 2010 - A&E Network will premiere the original scripted drama series, "The Glades" (previously titled "Sugarloaf") on Tuesday, July 13th at 10PM ET/PT. "The Glades," a character driven police procedural set in the fictional town of Palm Glade, Florida, stars Australian actor Matt Passmore ("McLeod's Daughters," "Underbelly"), Kiele Sanchez ("Lost," "Samantha Who?") and Carlos Gomez ("Shark," "Sleeper Cell").
In "The Glades," Passmore stars as Jim Longworth, an attractive, brilliant, yet hard to get along with homicide detective from Chicago who after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his former Captain's wife is forced into exile. Longworth relocates to the sleepy, middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida, where the sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. Yet life in this sleepy town is not as beautiful as it may seem.
Longworth was looking for a change of pace from his old life with the Chicago PD, and a change is definitely what he found. Only this town outside the Florida Everglades isn't quite as idyllic as he thought, as he finds people keep turning up murdered. One week it's a body in a swamp, the next it's a corpse inside a plane at a nature preserve, then it's a man found dead at a bikini contest. Each case pulls Longworth off the golf course and reluctantly into his element as one of the sharpest homicide detectives to wear a badge.
Between practicing his short game, trying to get a date with Callie (Sanchez) - a quick-witted, beautiful medical student with a 12 year-old son and a husband in prison - avoiding wearing his state trooper uniform, and trying to solve a slew of homicide cases, Longworth's transition to his new surroundings is a bit more difficult than expected. If he wasn't such a brilliant detective, maybe people would actually leave him alone and give him more time for leisure. In the meantime, he is realizing the skies in his new town are always sunny... with a chance of homicide.
In the pilot episode, the easy life quickly falls by the wayside when a decapitated, unidentifiable woman is found in a creek, begrudgingly dragging Longworth off the golf course in pursuit of her killer. Complicating matters more is his relationship with Callie, a hot and savvy nurse he has a crush on. With a Titleist sitting on the fourteenth fairway waiting for him to break eighty for the first time in his life, Longworth needles, cajoles, and harangues everyone in his path, including his golf partner and department medical examiner Carlos (Gomez), as he puzzles out the facts surrounding the mysterious killing to try and identify the victim and bring her killer to justice.
"The Glades" is produced by Fox Television Studios for A&E Network. The series executive producer is Clifton Campbell ("White Collar," "Profiler," "21 Jump Street") for Innuendo Productions and Gary Randall ("Saving Grace") for Grand Productions, Inc. The series creator is Clifton Campbell.
