Development Update: Monday, May 17
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BLEEP MY DAD SAYS (CBS) - The Eye is moving forward with the comedy pilot, about a twentysomething (Ryan Devlin) who moves back in with his larger-than-life dad (William Shatner). Said pickup marks the second comedy series order by the network for the 2010-11 season, the other being "Mike & Molly." David Kohan, Justin Halpern, Max Mutchnick and Patrick Schumacker are all behind the Warner Bros. Television-based half-hour, which also stars Nicole Sullivan, Stephanie Lemelin and Will Sasso. Devlin, as previously reported, is expected to be recast.

A LEGAL MIND/NECESSARY ROUGHNESS (A.K.A. DR. DONNA) (USA) - The cable channel has ordered cast-contingent 90-minute pilots for both drama projects. The former, announced last month, revolves around a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout who's hired by one of Manhattan's top corporate lawyers on a recruiting trip. Aaron Korsh penned the Universal Cable Productions-based project, which is also executive produced by David Bartis and Gene Klein of Dutch Oven. The latter, put in the works back in December, then tracks a female therapist who improves the fortunes of a pro football team and finds herself in demand from other teams and high-profile professionals. Elizabeth Kruger and Craig Shapiro co-wrote the script with Kevin Dowling attached to direct. Sony Pictures Television is the studio while Dowling, Donna Dannenfesler and Joe Sabatino will also executive produce.

LOVE BITES (NBC) - Greg Grunberg has been upped to series regular on the upcoming comedic anthology. The "Heroes" alum guest starred in the pilot as Judd, a married Venice Beach tattoo artist who improbably meets the only person on his "Celebrity Exemption List" (i.e., the list of famous people you get to sleep with if you ever get the chance) - Jennifer Love Hewitt, as herself - while on a flight to a friend's bachelor party. He joins fellow regulars Becki Newton and Jordana Spiro. The newcomer launches on Thursday nights this fall.

TWO AND A HALF MEN (CBS) - TMZ.com reports Charlie Sheen has closed a deal with Warner Bros. Television to return to the veteran sitcom for two more seasons. No financial specifics were given other than it's understood to be less than his $2 million per episode asking price. Last week co-star Angus T. Jones, whose contract was also up, likewise signed a deal to continue with the series through the 2011-12 season.
