Discovery Channel's Groundbreaking Series LIFE Leads Discovery's 16 Primetime Emmy Nominations

(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Communications received 16 Emmy(R) nominations for the 62nd Primetime Emmy(R) Awards, announced this morning by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Nominations for Discovery Communications include 14 for Discovery Channel and two for Animal Planet.

Discovery Channel's series, LIFE led with six nominations including Outstanding Nonfiction Series. More than four years in the making, LIFE is the definitive exploration of the adaptability and diversity of life on earth, revealing the most spectacular, bizarre and fascinating behaviors that living things have devised in order to thrive. LIFE was also nominated in the following categories: Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming; Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming; Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming; Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming (Single Or Multi-Camera) and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.

Now in its sixth season, Discovery Channel's highest rated series DEADLIEST CATCH, which follows a fleet of crab-fishing boats through the treacherous Bering Sea, earned four nominations including its fifth consecutive nod for Outstanding Nonfiction Series. The series also received nominations in the following categories: Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming; Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming; and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.

Three fan favorites rounded out Discovery Channel's nominations. DIRTY JOBS with Mike Rowe received two nominations for Outstanding Reality Program and Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming while MYTHBUSTERS was honored for Outstanding Reality Programming and MAN VS. WILD was recognized for Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming.

Animal Planet's WHALE WARS, one of the network's top rated series, which follows the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as they wage a life-and-death battle to find and stop the hunting of whales in the name of research, was honored with nominations in Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming.

The 62nd Primetime Emmy(R) Award winners will be announced live on Sunday, August 29.
