SYFY LAUNCHES FIRST EVER GHOST HUNTERS IPHONE APP FEATURING MORE THAN 100 HAUNTED LOCATIONS ACROSS AMERICA, FROM ALCATRAZ TO LIZZIE BORDEN'S HOUSE
NEW YORK - October 22, 2010 - Just in time for Halloween - and the six-hour Ghost Hunters Live October 31 telecast - Syfy is launching its first ever Ghost Hunters iPhone app, a guide to more than 100 haunted locations investigated by the Ghost Hunters team, which can be visited by anyone.
Utilizing the iPhones built-in GPS to find the nearest locations, the app will provide users with everything from hotels and restaurants to museums and tourist attractions, along with info on each location's history and the results of the Ghost Hunters' investigations.
The Ghost Hunters app locations include:
Alcatraz Island - San Francisco Bay, CA
Lizzie Borden's House - Fall River, MA
Mansfield Reformatory (The Shawshank Redemption movie) - Mansfield, OH
St. Augustine Lighthouse (Popular Ghost Hunters location) - St. Augustine, FL
The Stanley Hotel (The Shining movie) - Estes Park, CO
Fans can use the app's location-aware message board to leave a message for fellow ghost hunters. The Ghost Hunters app also enables users to check in with Foursquare directly. As the Ghost Hunters team visits new places, those sites will be automatically added.
Once again, the six-hour Ghost Hunters Live telecast will serve as the programming centerpiece of Syfy's annual 31 Days of Halloween. Airing Sunday, October 31, from 7PM-1AM (ET/PT), the investigation will feature cast members from the entire Ghost Hunters franchise (as well as many special guests), who will team up to take on the haunts at the inimitable Buffalo Central Terminal in Buffalo, New York. Built in 1929 and abandoned 50 years later, this decaying art deco masterpiece is a potent hotbed of paranormal activity.
The #1 paranormal investigative franchise on television, Ghost Hunters is produced in association with Craig Piligian's Pilgrim Films and Television (Dirty Jobs, The Ultimate Fighter, My Fair Wedding). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers.
