Exclusive: Science Channel Books Four New Series for 2011
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Science Channel has ordered four new original series for 2011 but you won't have to wait that long to check them out.

"Sneak Peek Fridays," a four-week stunt beginning November 26, will offer up the pilot episodes to each project every Friday night at 10:00/9:00c.

Here's the network's descriptions of the newcomers, each of which will formally roll out in the first quarter of 2011:

SPY WARS (Friday, November 26) - Science and technology has raised the stakes, but the human element -- what goes inside the brain of a trained master spy -- that's what SPY WARS delivers to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. This is a first-ever and exclusive look inside the most sophisticated intelligence communities in the world -- men and women who went undercover in Cuba, Israel, GBR, Russia, China and double agents in the U.S. They are the players in a deadly game, and Spy Wars is their story.

DEADLY DESCENT (Friday, December 3) - Two areas in the world remain unexplored by man, the bottom of the ocean, and caves. Science Channel takes viewers underground into the extraordinary and dangerous world of deep cave exploration. Cave holds secrets to solving mankind's biggest challenges, including clues to the geologic mysteries of our planet and revolutionary new cures in medicine. But scientists aren't physically or mentally capable of enduring the treacherous underworld of deep cave exploration. Instead, they depend on an elite team of "cavers" to undertake those missions on a DEADLY DESCENT.

STUCK WITH HACKETT (Friday, December 10) - If you were stranded far from civilization with the basics covered: food, water, and shelter, what would you do to do more than just survive? How would you thrive? There's no need to eat bugs like a survivalist, or dig a hole to sleep in. Soon you'd be craving those modern conveniences you so easily take for granted. Each episode has the same format. Hackett, An engineering alchemist, finds himself alone in an environment. How did he get there? Who cares! He's there and he's going to explore and take his basic existence and ramp it up! The range of places and experiences is wide -- snowy, wet, woodsy, prairie, ruined cities, rugged or not. Hackett will transmute base material into mechanical gold. Why? Because that is what he does, what his creativity urges him to do. Hackett can't help it

BLAISIN OUT (Friday, December 17) - America fell in love with Chef Richard Blais on Top Chef. Now, this charismatic culinary modernist is on a mission: to create the best dishes ever. But how can one man beat the world's most renowned chefs, experts who have been spent years perfecting their recipes? With Science! Chef Blais uses ultra-modern tools and techniques to deconstruct and then re-engineer new-and-improved versions of America's most popular meals using technology and science. Can Chef Blais take on classic American food icons and make their creations better? It's science-based creative inspiration vs. decades of tradition and billions served.
