Bugs Bunny Takes Flight as Cartoon Network Launches Advertising Experience for "The Looney Tunes Show" Onboard Spirit Airlines
Cartoon Network, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., today announced the launch of an innovative advertising experience onboard Spirit Airlines aircraft. In a deal brokered by Turner Media Group, Cartoon Network and Spirit Airlines unveiled an interior plane wrap, bringing images of Bugs Bunny and his fellow cast of characters onboard Spirit Airlines aligned with the launch of the all-new television series The Looney Tunes Show premiering May 3, at 8 p.m. (ET, PT) on Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network developed eye-catching custom graphics with production media company Global OnBoard Partners transforming the interior of the entire fleet of Spirit planes into an immersive experience featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and other beloved Looney Tunes characters.
"The use of onboard advertising on Spirit Airlines is a perfect way to promote our all-new series The Looney Tunes Show to traveling families," said Vicky Free, VP, 360 consumer marketing for Turner Broadcasting's Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media group (AYAKM). "Our team at Cartoon Network, created original artwork that brings the modern personalities of the Looney Tunes characters to life and the experience planes showcase them in a relevant and fun way like no other media venue can."
"We are thrilled that Cartoon Network is using Spirit's onboard advertising program to introduce its new The Looney Tunes Show. The graphics create such a fun, entertaining, and memorable experience for our passengers that will be remembered long after the flight," said Michael Pewther, Spirit's Senior Director of Sales and Mile High Media. "The flow of the graphics throughout the cabin brings the Looney Tunes characters to life in such a unique and creative way."
The graphics will entertain Spirit passengers, with the average interaction time with the campaign being 2.5 hours on each Spirit aircraft flying throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. While traditional advertising provides consumer recall of only 5-12%, the Looney Tunes experience provides recall rates of up to 94%, proving passengers remember the brand and message after they have exited the aircraft.
The Looney Tunes interior wraps appear on the overhead bins, skyline panels above the windows, bulkhead walls, and tray tables of three of Spirit's Airbus A320 aircraft from April 30 till June 30, 2011. Other Spirit aircraft, including its fleet of Airbus A319s and A321s, will feature Looney Tunes characters on tray tables until early June 2011.
Global Onboard Partners, Spirit, and Cartoon Network will also be hosting a Gatehouse Ambassador Program in the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport May 14, 15, 16. Two Cartoon Network ambassadors and Looney Tunes costumed characters will be placed in the gatehouse area in Ft. Lauderdale reaching all families and children. Ambassadors will provide giveaways like tattoos, bunny ears, and cups to promote the new Looney Tunes Show.
