HOMELAND ON SHOWTIME(R) HONORED WITH A GEORGE FOSTER PEABODY AWARD

SHOWTIME Receives Two Peabody Awards This Year - REBIRTH Documentary Also Recognized

NEW YORK - (April 4, 2012) - This morning, SHOWTIME was recognized with two prestigious George Foster Peabody Awards, the most in one year in the network's history. The Peabody Awards honored the SHOWTIME freshman drama series HOMELAND and the critically-acclaimed documentary REBIRTH, which originally aired on SHOWTIME on the 10th anniversary of the events of September 11. The highly-anticipated second season of HOMELAND premieres on Sunday, September 30th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

HOMELAND has recently been lauded with a number of major awards including the 2012 Golden Globe(R) for Best Television Drama, as well as being named one of AFI's Top Ten Television Programs of 2011. Series star Claire Danes was honored with the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama for her role as Carrie Mathison, and series star Damian Lewis was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama for his work as Sgt. Nicholas Brody. HOMELAND was also awarded two 2012 Writers Guild Awards for New Series and Episodic Drama. Series executive producer Michael Cuesta was also nominated for a Directors Guild Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series.

The network's highest-rated freshman drama series ever, HOMELAND averaged 4.4 million weekly viewers across platforms in its first season, and its season one finale was the highest-rated finale for a freshman series in SHOWTIME history, with five million viewers across platforms. The series will begin production this spring, shooting on location in Israel and in North Carolina.

HOMELAND is a one-hour drama series that tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Danes), a CIA officer dealing with bi-polar disorder, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Nicholas Brody (Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed dead for eight years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al-Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. The series also stars Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, David Marciano, Navid Negahban, Jamey Sheridan, Morgan Saylor, Jackson Pace and Mandy Patinkin. HOMELAND is based on the original Israeli series "Prisoners of War, by Gideon Raff, developed for American television by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa. Along with Gordon, Gansa and Raff, the executive producers for season one were Avi Nir, Ran Telem and Michael Cuesta. The series is produced by FOX 21.

The result of a decade-long filmmaking sojourn, the inspirational story of REBIRTH follows the transformation of five people whose lives were forever altered on September 11, 2001 - and simultaneously tracks via unprecedented, multi-camera, time-lapse photography the minute-by-minute evolution of the memorial where the Twin Towers once rose over lower Manhattan. What emerges from the mix is a singular cinematic experience, at once emotionally intimate and spiritually exhilarating - one that provides a direct portrait of how trauma, grief, anger and chaos metamorphose into hope, connection, purpose and rebuilding, as in time, the human spirit transcends unthinkable disaster in time. The film captures a series of gripping, personal dramas as they unfolded, including those of a fireman grappling with guilt after losing his best friend; a construction worker finding solace in new buildings rising from the wreckage; the fiancée of a First Responder whose upended life takes surprising turns; a survivor who escaped from an impact floor but confronts life-changing scars; and a high school student who uncovers new directions after the mother who meant everything to him perished. Their stories - raw, shifting and unforgettably real - are each unique. Fused with each other and dynamic images of physical renewal, they become an interwoven portrait of human resiliency in action; a meditation on the nature of time, memory and loss; and a vital reflection on the national yearning to remember, honor and restore our dreams. From Oscilloscope Laboratories, REBIRTH was directed by Jim Whitaker and produced by David Solomon and Whitaker. Check SHO.com for a schedule: http://bit.ly/nE9sP7

Among prizes for electronic media - radio awards, television awards, interactive and new media awards - THE GEORGE FOSTER PEABODY AWARDS are considered the most prestigious. Founded in 1940, the Peabody is the also the oldest electronic media award in the world, recognizing excellence, distinguished achievement, and meritorious public service. The first radio awards were presented in 1941, for work completed in 1940. The first television awards were presented in 1948, the first cable television awards in 1981, and the first web site awards in 2003. Honoring content from large broadcast networks to tiny online outlets, from popular entertainment programs to independently produced documentaries, and all types in between, the Peabody Awards seek out "excellence on its own terms." The awards are administered by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
