SANTA MONICA, CA (August 28, 2012) - MTV announced today that singer-songwriter superstar Demi Lovato will kick things off with a live performance of her top five hit "Give Your Heart A Break" in front of hundreds of screaming fans at the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show" presented by State Farm(R) on Thursday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT. Broadcasting live from outside STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA, MTV is taking the pre-show red carpet to new heights, literally, with a first-of-its-kind two-story structure where all the nominees, presenters and performers will arrive, pose and be interviewed. Additionally, world renowned super-producer, Electronic artist and DJ, Calvin Harris - nominated for "Best Electronic Dance Music Video" - will warm up the VMA crowd for an hour prior to the show and then keep the crowd dancing through the night. Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the "2012 Video Music Awards" airs LIVE from STAPLES Center on Thursday, September 6 from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Performers announced so far include Alicia Keys, P!nk, Green Day, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Rihanna and Frank Ocean.

"I'm so excited to perform at the VMA preshow. I can't believe it!" said Demi Lovato.

In addition to the live concert event, viewers should tune-in as the first Moonman trophies of the night will be awarded in several "2012 MTV Video Music Awards" categories including the all-new "Most Share-Worthy Video," presented by Bing award, featuring nominees Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe," Beyoncé, "Countdown," Justin Bieber, "Boyfriend," One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful" and Goyte, "Somebody That I Used to Know." This new category honors the artists with the most impactful music videos of the year. Their work has prompted scores of social shares and served as the inspiration behind countless shareable fan-made lipdubs, recreations and alternate versions of their music videos.

As a part of MTV's "2012 Video Music Awards Pre-Show," MTV News' Sway Calloway, Jim Cantiello, James Montgomery and Christina Garibaldi will take viewers live to the vertical red carpet, behind the scenes and backstage with some of music's hottest stars including P!nk and Alicia Keys. MTV Style has confirmed Holland Roden from "Teen Wolf" will host MTV.com's Red Carpet Report. Holland will lend her style expertise to the VMA red carpet and interview celebrities about their fashion.

Also on the red carpet, British TV host and fashion expert Louise Roe will return as MTV International's guest correspondent for the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards" for the second year in a row. Roe will be chatting up all the A-list celebs on the red carpet, bringing audiences outside the US even closer to the hottest stars in music and entertainment as part of MTV's global coverage of the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards." Most recently, Roe was the international correspondent at the "2012 MTV Movie Awards"; she also covered the 2012 Oscars Red Carpet Show for ABC, the 2011 Royal Wedding for E! and the 2011 MTV EMA red carpet in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This fall, Roe will host the second season of the popular and empowering reality series Plain Jane, which will air across MTV's international channels.
