"I'm so excited to perform at the VMA preshow. I can't believe it!" said Demi Lovato.

In addition to the live concert event, viewers should tune-in as the first Moonman trophies of the night will be awarded in several "2012 MTV Video Music Awards" categories including the all-new "Most Share-Worthy Video," presented by Bing award, featuring nominees Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe," Beyoncé, "Countdown," Justin Bieber, "Boyfriend," One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful" and Goyte, "Somebody That I Used to Know." This new category honors the artists with the most impactful music videos of the year. Their work has prompted scores of social shares and served as the inspiration behind countless shareable fan-made lipdubs, recreations and alternate versions of their music videos.

As a part of MTV's "2012 Video Music Awards Pre-Show," MTV News' Sway Calloway, Jim Cantiello, James Montgomery and Christina Garibaldi will take viewers live to the vertical red carpet, behind the scenes and backstage with some of music's hottest stars including P!nk and Alicia Keys.
