DISCOVERY CHANNEL HONORED WITH SIX AWARDS AT THE 2012 PRIMETIME CREATIVE ARTS EMMYS(R)

-- FROZEN PLANET Wins Four Awards, including Outstanding Nonfiction Series and DEADLIEST CATCH Takes Home Two -

(Los Angeles, Calif.) - Discovery Channel won big at the 2012 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys(R) this Saturday, September 15, taking home six prestigious awards. FROZEN PLANET was honored with four awards, including Outstanding Nonfiction series. DEADLIEST CATCH snatched two wins.

Four years in the making, FROZEN PLANET provided the ultimate portrait of our earth's polar regions, where the scale and beauty of the scenery and sheer power of the natural elements are unlike anywhere else on the planet. To capture nature's majestic power -- as well as its ultimate fragility -- FROZEN PLANET's filmmakers utilized the latest cinematographic techniques and technology to capture groundbreaking imagery both above and below the ice in some of the most extreme and remote regions of our planet.

DEADLIEST CATCH profiles the men who risk everything to work the most dangerous job in the world - crab fishing in the icy, treacherous waters of Alaska's Bering Sea. DEADLIEST CATCH's Emmy(R)-winning episode was "I Don't Wanna Die," which originally aired on Tuesday, May 22, at 9 PM ET. In this Emmy(R)-winning episode, the Wizard crew calls in a Coast Guard helicopter to help their collapsed greenhorn. For the rest of the fleet, it's a race to haul crab before a hurricane hits, and the last boat fishing waits too long to leave the grounds. DEADLIEST CATCH is produced for Discovery Channel by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company.
