New York, NY - 25 October 2013 - Miley Cyrus has been voted the Best U.S. Act for the "2013 MTV EMA," having received the most votes from fans. Starting today, Cyrus now moves on to face Best Canadian Act winner Justin Bieber to try to secure a spot to represent the North America region in the Worldwide Act category at the "2013 MTV EMA" broadcasting Sunday, November 10th at 7:00PM ET/PT in the US.* The "2013 MTV EMA" is sponsored in the U.S. by 5 Gum(TM), LG Mobile, Herbal Essences, Taco Bell(R) and T-Mobile(R). MTV will announce additional EMA performers and presenters at a later date.

From now until October 31st, fans can vote for their favorite regional act on www.mtvema.com and do their part to help them reach the next round. The representative for North America will be announced on November 1st, along with the other regional winners. These 10 regional nominees will then battle for votes for the Worldwide Act distinction, and the winner will be named at the show in Amsterdam.

"The Worldwide Act segment is a clear example of how the MTV EMAs has evolved from a pan-Euro focused show into a truly global event celebrating the year's biggest music artists. Fans around the world are able to vote for their favorite local music heroes and ultimately drive the results," said Bruce Gillmer, Executive Vice President of Talent and Music Programming/Events, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). "The MTV EMA highlights the biggest and best international and regional superstars, and we're really looking forward to celebrating all of this incredible talent in Amsterdam."

World renowned entertainer and multiplatinum recording artist Miley Cyrus has taken the world by storm, not only dominating the music charts but also pop culture buzz in 2013. It was announced just yesterday that Cyrus' critically acclaimed new album Bangerz debuted at #1 on both the Billboard Top 200 Chart and the Digital Album Chart in the U.S., in addition to hitting #1 on iTunes in more than 70 countries. Bangerz also debuted at #1 in Canada, Australia, Ireland and the UK, where Cyrus currently has a double #1 with "Wrecking Ball" hitting the top slot on the UK singles chart. Cyrus is nominated in four "2013 MTV EMA" categories, including Best Pop, Best Female, Best Video for "Wrecking Ball" and Best US Act. Her return to the EMA stage will mark her second "MTV EMA" performance to date.

This year, 186 of the world's hottest musical acts have enjoyed the MTV EMA spotlight as nominees in the Worldwide Act voting competition. For the past six weeks, MTV has given fans around the world the chance to vote online for their favorite hometown artists to help them win the "Best Act" title in their respective market. These artists span genres from Mandopop to indie-rock and Afrobeats to electro-house and hail from 126 cities and 29 small towns across 51 countries.

Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Snoop Dogg, Afrojack, Imagine Dragons, The Killers, and Katy Perry are all set to perform at the "2013 MTV EMA," which will also feature intergalactic MC Redfoo, backstage host Ariana Grande and special guest Ron Burgundy of Anchorman 2 (Will Ferrell). Iggy Azalea, Ellie Goulding, Carice van Houten and Colton Haynes are also confirmed to present, with more performers and presenters still to be announced.
