THE BRINK (HBO; W: Kim Benabib & Roberto Benabib; D: Jay Roach) - Jack Black and Tim Robbins have been tapped for lead roles on the comedy pilot, about "a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Robbins), a man of big appetites and little patience for the war mongers in the Situation Room; Coppins (Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer reluctantly caught on the ground in the middle of it all; and ace Navy fighter pilot Zeke Callahan." Roberto Benabib, Jerry Weintraub and Roach are the executive producers with Kim Benabib serving as a co-executive producer and Black and Robbins as producers. (Deadline.com)
POWER (Starz/CTS; W: Courtney Kemp Agboh; D: TBA) - La La Anthony, Andy Bean and Debbi Morgan have all scored roles on the upcoming drama, about James "Ghost" St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a wealthy New York City nightclub owner who caters to the city's elite who also is the kingpin of the most lucrative drug network in New York for a very high-level clientele. Anthony will play LaKeisha Grant, "childhood friend to Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughto) and her closest confidant who is kept in the dark on certain aspects of Tasha's life out of necessity"; with Bean as Greg, "Angela's (Lela Loren) super-fit and over-protective boyfriend who is not what he seems"; and Morgan as Estelle, Tasha's mom. Adam Huss, Joseph Sikora, Kathrine Narducci and Sinqua Walls also star. (Deadline.com)
RASPUTIN (FX, New!) - Writer Paul Scheuring ("Zero Hour") and director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) are developing an event series at the cable channel about Grigori Rasputin, "the Russian peasant and mystic who became an adviser to the Russian Imperial family" in the early 20th century. Said effort is based on Douglas Smith's upcoming book, "Rasputin: Dark Forces and the Fall of the Romanovs." Scheuring then will pen the teleplay off a concept created with Kapur, who presumably may direct. No other auspices were given. (Deadline.com)
RED BAND SOCIETY (FOX, New!) - Margaret Nagle ("Side Order of Life") is developing a domestic take on Albert Espinosa's Spanish format, about "the daily life of a group of teenage kids living in a hospital who become unlikely friends." Marta Kauffman previously spearheaded a similar effort at ABC in 2011. Sergio Aguero is also executive producing the hour alongside Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank for Amblin Television and ABC Studios. Carlos and Julio Fernandez will likewise serve as co-executive producers. (Deadline.com)
STAND-UP GUY (NBC, New!) - Dan Lagana ("Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous") has sold a potential multi-camera comedy to the Peacock about "a young comedian who pursues his lifelong dream of being a working stand-up while juggling the growing responsibilities of being a husband and soon-to-be-father at home." Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold are also on board to executive produce the project via their Warner Bros. Television-based Doozer banner. (Deadline.com)
STAR CRAZY (The CW, New!) - Bob Brush and Mel Harris (ABC's "Scruples") are developing a new drama at the netlet about "a young Latina singer as she rises from poverty to fame and captures the heart of the nation along the way." George Lopez and Leslie Kolins Small of Travieso Productions will also serve as executive producers on the hour, which is set up at Warner Bros. Television. (THR.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Nickelodeon has given "Paw Patrol" a second season order of 26 episodes (Deadline.com); Stuart Wilson will guest on NBC's "Crossbones" as Captain Sam Valentine, "a powerful pirate and an old friend of Blackbeard's (John Malkovich)" (THR.com); Jason Ritter will once again return to "Parenthood" as Sarah's (Lauren Graham) former beau Mark Cyr (TVLine.com); and Joanna Garcia Swisher is bound for "The Mindy Project" as "the sister of new series regular Adam Pally's Dr. Peter Prentice" (TVLine.com).
