OLYMPIC CURLING GOLD MEDALIST KEVIN MARTIN TO JOIN NBC OLYMPICS
Record Holder for Most Olympic Curling Wins to Serve as Curling Analyst
Stamford, Conn. - February 3, 2014 - Kevin Martin, a two-time Olympic curling medalist who skipped Team Canada to the gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Games, will join NBC Olympics for its 2014 Olympic Winter Games coverage, it was announced today.
Martin, who holds the men's record for the most Olympic curling victories with 20 total wins spanning two Olympic Games, will be a curling analyst for NBC Olympics' coverage. Martin's team was undefeated during round-robin play at Vancouver in 2010, becoming the first team to accomplish the feat since 1924.
"After such a distinguished career, Kevin will provide our viewers with an insightful look at this increasingly popular Winter Games sport," said Jim Bell, Executive Producer of NBC Olympics.
Martin's extensive curling resume includes his gold medal in Vancouver (2010) and a silver medal in Salt Lake City (2002), a world championship (2008), and four titles at the Brier, Canada's annual men's curling championship.
THE OLYMPICS BEGIN FEB. 6, 2014
With more Winter Olympic events than ever before, competition for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games from Sochi, Russia, will begin one day prior to the Opening Ceremony. As a result, NBC will begin its primetime coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics on Thursday, February 6, one night before the broadcast network provides its traditional coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday February 7. This marks the first time NBC will air Olympic primetime coverage before the Opening Ceremony. The primetime broadcast on Thursday, February 6, 2014, is scheduled to include competition in snowboard slopestyle (men's and women's), in which two-time gold medalist Shaun White will compete in slopestyle's Olympic debut; team figure skating, which is also in the Olympics for the first time; and women's freestyle moguls.
