NEW YORK, August 26, 2014 - Comedy Central continues to reign supreme in the Variety Series categories. The #1 brand in comedy received three awards during the 2013-2014 Primetime Emmy(R) Awards competition, as awarded by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS), including "The Colbert Report" for the second consecutive year earning Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.

Since receiving its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Series in 2001 ("The Daily Show with Jon Stewart"), Comedy Central has dominated the Variety Series categories with "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" earning a combined 26 Emmy among the Series, Writing and Editing categories, including 12 consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series ("The Daily Show" 2003-2012; "The Colbert Report" 2013 and 2014). The series is also a two-time winner of the prestigious Peabody(R) Award for Excellence in Broadcasting

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were presented in two ceremonies. The first, primarily for creative arts categories, took place on Saturday, August 16, while the balance of the Emmys, primarily for the performing arts, and were announced last night before a black-tie audience during a primetime telecast (NBC).
